The Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education announced on the 20th that they will be operating a new program called 'Student Human Rights Supporters' this year.
This initiative was launched following a policy proposal by the Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education Student Council last year, aiming to expand human rights education and policy participation with students taking the lead. The Student Council suggested that students should actively participate as the main agents in promoting human rights education and policy implementation to address human rights issues within schools.
The Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education plans to designate and operate some student-centered human rights clubs as 'Student Human Rights Supporters Clubs'. They will first conduct a pilot program focusing on Jeonju, Iksan, and Gunsan, evaluate the results, and then consider expanding it to all regions within the province.
It is expected that the Student Human Rights Supporters will identify human rights issues at school sites and perform various roles such as practical activities and offering opinions.
Lee Hye-ran, the director of the Jeonbuk Education Human Rights Center, stated, "Students will grow not as subjects of human rights but as agents of practice and change," adding, "We will continue to expand human rights education policies based on student participation."
전북교육청, ‘학생인권 서포터즈’ 신규 운영…학생 주도 인권 참여 확대
전북교육청은 올해 신규 사업으로 ‘학생인권 서포터즈’를 운영한다고 20일 밝혔다.
이번 사업은 지난해 전북교육청 학생의회의 정책 제안을 계기로 추진됐으며, 학생이 주체가 되는 인권교육과 정책 참여 확대를 목표로 한다. 학생의회는 학교 내 인권 문제 해결을 위해 학생 스스로 인권교육과 인권정책 실행의 주체로 참여해야 한다고 제안한 바 있다.
전북교육청은 학생 중심 인권 동아리 가운데 일부를 ‘학생인권 서포터즈 동아리’로 지정해 운영할 계획이다. 우선 전주·익산·군산을 중심으로 시범 운영한 뒤 성과를 평가해 도내 전 지역으로 확대 여부를 검토한다.
학생인권 서포터즈는 학교 현장에서 인권 문제를 발굴하고, 실천 활동과 의견 제안 등 다양한 역할을 수행할 것으로 기대된다.
이혜란 전북교육인권센터장은 “학생들이 인권의 대상이 아니라 실천과 변화의 주체로 성장할 수 있을 것”이라며 “학생 참여 기반 인권교육 정책을 지속적으로 확대하겠다”고 말했다.
