Jeonju City will continue to operate the 'Jeonju Citizen Reading School' this year to help citizens develop their reading abilities and self-realization.
The city announced that it will recruit about 180 students for the 2026 Jeonju Citizen Reading School from March 16 to April 10 on a first-come, first-served basis.
Celebrating its 29th anniversary this year, the Jeonju Citizen Reading School has been a program contributing to lifelong education for citizens, the spread of reading culture, and the training of resource activists.
This year, the Citizen Reading School will be held from April 14 to July 10 at nine municipal libraries in the region, including the Jeonju City Library. The program will offer nine subjects, including library tour guides, picture book curation, puppet theater with picture books, storytelling for children, cognitive activities for the elderly, elementary book activities, art instruction, recitation performances, and nature and forest ecology education.
All courses will run for three months, and the tuition fee is 5,000 won per month. Citizens who wish to participate can apply through the Jeonju City Library's online portal.
Lee Young-seop, the head of the Jeonju City Library's lifelong learning department, expressed hope that the Jeonju Citizen Reading School would serve as a guide to provide citizens with direction in life, and urged for active interest and participation.
전주시, 시민독서학교 수강생 180여 명 모집
전주시가 시민들의 독서 역량 개발과 자아실현을 돕기 위한 ‘전주시민독서학교’를 올해도 운영한다.
시는 오는 16일부터 4월 10일까지 2026년 전주시민독서학교 수강생 180여 명을 선착순 모집한다고 밝혔다.
올해로 29주년을 맞은 전주시민독서학교는 시민들의 평생교육과 독서문화 확산, 자원활동가 양성에 기여해 온 프로그램이다.
올해 시민독서학교는 4월 14일부터 7월 10일까지 전주시립도서관 꽃심 등 지역 9개 시립도서관에서 운영되며, 도서관 여행 해설사, 그림책 북 큐레이션, 그림책 인형극, 동화 구연 지도, 노인 인지활동 책놀이, 초등 책놀이, 펩아트 지도사, 공연 시 낭송, 자연 숲 생태교육 등 9개 과목이 개설된다.
모든 과정은 3개월 과정으로 진행되며 수강료는 월 5000원이다. 참여를 원하는 시민은 전주도서관 누리집을 통해 신청할 수 있다.
이영섭 전주시 도서관평생학습본부장은 “전주시민독서학교가 시민들에게 삶의 방향성을 제시하는 길잡이가 되길 바란다”며 많은 관심과 참여를 당부했다.
