JBNU's Jeonbuk International Development Cooperation Center received a positive response by hosting a special lecture on reading to broaden understanding of international development cooperation and global issues.
On the 17th, the center invited lecturer Kim Eun-sil to conduct a special lecture titled 'Reading the World' for the ODA club 'ODA利 15th generation' both online and offline at the JBNU International Center.
This special lecture was open not only to club students but also to anyone interested in books and reading.
During the lecture, Kim Eun-sil discussed the topic 'What is reading,' emphasizing the meaning and role of books, as well as the value of empathy and solidarity formed through reading and discussing together. She also explained how personal reflection can expand into the values of social solidarity and international cooperation.
This special lecture was prepared ahead of ODA利's reading and discussion activities. Participating students will read six books related to international development cooperation, summarize and analyze the content, and then engage in team discussions on global issues such as poverty and climate crisis, refugees, and inequality.
Baek Suk-hee, the head of the Jeonbuk International Development Cooperation Center, expressed hope that reading would serve as an opportunity for a deeper understanding of international development cooperation and global issues, stating, "We will continue to support students in exploring international development cooperation in various ways."

ODA 동아리 학생들 참여… 독서 통해 세계 이해 넓혀
전북대학교 전북국제개발협력센터가 국제개발협력과 글로벌 이슈에 대한 이해를 넓히기 위한 독서 특강을 열어 호응을 얻었다.
센터는 17일 오후 JBNU 인터내셔널센터에서 ODA 동아리 ‘ODA利 15기’를 대상으로 김은실 강사를 초청해 ‘세상을 읽는 독서’ 특강을 온·오프라인으로 진행했다고 밝혔다.
이번 특강은 동아리 학생들뿐 아니라 책과 독서에 관심 있는 누구나 참여할 수 있도록 운영됐다.
김은실 강사는 강연에서 ‘독서란 무엇인가’를 주제로 책의 의미와 역할을 짚고, 함께 읽고 토론하는 과정에서 형성되는 공감과 연대의 가치를 강조했다. 또 개인의 성찰이 사회적 연대와 국제협력의 가치로 확장될 수 있다고 설명했다.
이번 특강은 ODA利의 독서 토의 활동에 앞서 마련됐다. 참여 학생들은 앞으로 국제개발협력 관련 도서 6권을 읽고 내용을 요약·분석한 뒤, 빈곤과 기후위기, 난민, 불평등 등 글로벌 이슈를 주제로 팀별 토의를 진행할 예정이다.
백숙희 전북국제개발협력센터장은 “독서를 통해 국제개발협력과 세계 문제를 보다 깊이 있게 이해하는 계기가 되길 바란다”며 “앞으로도 학생들이 다양한 방식으로 국제개발협력을 탐구할 수 있도록 지원하겠다”고 말했다.
