On March 21, a Greater Yellow-legs was discovered in the tidal flats of Hansuro in Simwon-myeon, Gochang-gun. Belonging to the order Charadriiformes and the family Scolopacidae, this bird is approximately 30cm in size, slightly larger than the Lesser Yellow-legs (25cm). While similar to the Lesser Yellow-legs, which has greenish-gray legs, the Greater Yellow-legs has distinctively yellow legs.
Although there was a record of its sighting in Sorae Yeomjeon in 1993, it was later deleted due to insufficient evidence. This recent discovery, after 23 years, is highly likely to be the first valid record in South Korea, making it of significant scientific value.
길잃은철새(미조) 큰노랑발도요
미기록종 큰노랑발도요 고창 심원 한 수로 갯벌에서 발견
3월 21일 고창군 심원면 한 수로의 갯벌에서 큰노랑발도요(Greater Yellow-legs)가 발견되었다. 도요목 도요과에 속하는 새로 크기는 30cm 정도로 노랑발도요(크기 25cm)보다 조금 크다. 청다리도요와 유사하나 청다리도요는 다리가 회색을 띤 녹색이다. 반면 큰노랑발도요는 다리가 선명한 노란색이다.
1993년에 소래 염전에서 발견되었다는 기록이 있으나 증거 불충분으로 삭제되었다. 23년 만에 발견으로 사실상 국내 첫 유효 기록이 될 가능성이 높아 학술적 가치가 크다.
