The Jeonbuk Provincial Government's National Gugak Center Orchestra (hereinafter referred to as the Gugak Center) under the artistic direction of Lee Yong-tak, will present a special performance titled "Coming Together as One" at the Moak Hall of the Korean Sound Culture Center on April 3rd at 7:30 p.m.
This performance, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Gugak Center's establishment, will feature a special joint stage with the Gangwon Provincial Government's National Gugak Center Orchestra. Since its founding in 1999, the Gangwon Provincial Government's National Gugak Center Orchestra has been known for its reinterpretation of tradition and creative activities, making it a representative performing group of Gangwon Province. This meeting between the two orchestras from Jeonbuk and Gangwon carries the significance of sharing and uniting the colors and musical depths of the two special autonomous provinces.
The performance program consists of a total of 7 pieces, with each orchestra's artistic director taking turns conducting the joint performances.
The first stage will begin with the Gugak Center Orchestra performing "Miracle" (composed by Kim Chang-hwan), a Gugak orchestral piece conveying a message of hope by encapsulating 'beauty,' 'joy,' and 'outburst of happiness.' With a lively rhythm, lyrical melodies, and bright energy, this piece sets the tone for the "Coming Together as One" concert.
The second stage will feature a collaborative performance by the Gugak Center Orchestra and the Gayageum Concerto "Purple Doraji" (composed by Kang Sun-mi), a commissioned piece inspired by the 21-string Gayageum piece "White Doraji of Hwanggeumsan" from North Korea. Based on the emotions of the traditional folk song "Doraji," this piece combines refined melodies, energy, delicacy, and strength.
Next, the orchestras will perform "Gangwon Siseon" (composed by Hwang Ho-jun), a piece based on Gangwon's poetry and music, expressing the region's emotions. This piece depicts the scenery of Chuncheon's Soyang River during late summer, portraying a longing sentiment towards a distant loved one, combining lyricism and dramatic flow.
The fourth stage will showcase a concerto for Daegeum, Haegeum, and Ajaeng titled "Samhyeonmu" (composed by Seo Soon-jung), a commissioned piece where the three instruments come together with different tones and breaths, creating a musical dialogue through improvisational melodies and variations, depicting energetic and liberating rhythms.
Following that, the orchestras will perform "Gangwon Arirang" (composed by Park Han-gyu), a collaborative piece based on Gangwon's representative folk songs "Hano Baeknyeon" and "Gangwon Arirang," blending sound and Gugak orchestration to showcase the region's emotional depth.
The grand finale will feature a medley of children's songs (composed by Lee Yong-tak) and "One Song, National Anthem" (composed by Son Da-hye), with a special appearance by the Sarom Gugak Orchestra.
The children's song medley rearranges familiar childhood songs into Gugak orchestration, preserving the original's lyrical and simple melodies while adding traditional rhythms and the sound of Gugak instruments to express diverse rhythms and colors.
The concluding piece, "One Song, National Anthem," is a Gugak orchestral work restructured around the theme of the national anthem, going beyond a simple choral piece to express the community's identity, emotional bond, and message of hope through music.
Artistic Director Lee Yong-tak stated, "This joint stage with the Gangwon Provincial Government's National Gugak Center Orchestra, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Gugak Center's establishment, holds a significant meaning of two regions uniting through music," and expressed, "Through a moving stage where tradition, creation, and people come together, we aim to deliver a new spring resonance to our audience."
도립국악원, 관현악단 특별기획 신춘음악회‘하나가 되어’ 공연
국악원 개원 40주년 기념 강원특별자치도립국악관현악단 함께 공연
전북특별자치도립국악원(이하 국악원) 관현악단(예술감독 이용탁)은 오는 4월 3일 오후 7시 30분 한국소리문화의전당 모악당에서 관현악단 특별기획 신춘음악회‘하나가 되어’ 를 선보인다.
이번 공연은 국악원 개원 40주년을 기념하여, 강원특별자치도립국악관현악단과 함께하는 특별한 합동 무대다.
1999년 창단 이후 전통의 재해석과 창작활동을 통해 강원특별자치도를 대표하는 연주단체로 알려진 강원특별자치도립국악관현악단과의 이번 만남은, 전북과 강원 두 특별자치도가 서로 다른 지역의 색과 음악적 깊이를 나누고 어우르는 의미 있는 무대로 기대를 모은다.
공연 프로그램은 총 7곡으로, 각 관현악단의 예술감독이 번갈아 가며 지휘봉을 맡아 합주를 이끈다.
첫 무대는 美! 樂! 扢!(Miracle) (작곡 김창환)로, ‘아름다움(美)’,‘즐거움(樂)’,‘기쁨의 분출(扢)’을 담아 희망의 메시지를 전하는 국악관현악곡이다. 경쾌한 리듬과 서정적인 선율, 밝은 에너지가 어우러진 입체적인 구성으로 신춘음악회의 시작을 연다.
두 번째 무대는 관현악단 조보연 수석 단원의 협연 무대, 가야금 협주곡‘보라 빛 도라지’(작곡 강순미) 위촉곡이 이어진다. 북한의 21현 가야금곡 ‘황금산의 백도라지’를 듣고 영감을 받아 작곡된 작품이다. 전통 민요 ‘도라지’의 정서를 바탕으로, 정제된 선율과 에너지, 섬세함과 힘을 함께 담아낸다.
이어 국악관현악‘강원시선(江原詩選)’(작곡 황호준)으로 강원의 시(詩)와 음악을 바탕으로 지역의 정서를 풀어낸 작품을 연주한다. 강원의 사계와 명시를 국악관현악으로 그려낸 이 곡은, 매월당 김시습의 시 「봉매우별(逢梅又別)」을 모티브로 삼아, 늦여름 춘천 소양강에 폭우로 물이 불어난 풍경 속에서 그리운 이를 향한 애틋한 마음을 음악적으로 표현하며, 서정성과 극적인 흐름을 동시에 담아낸 곡이다.
네 번째 무대는 위촉곡인 대금·해금·아쟁을 위한 협주곡‘삼현무(三現舞)’(작곡 서순정)를 선보인다.‘세 존재가 현현하여 춤춘다’는 의미로, 대금·해금·아쟁이 서로 다른 음색과 호흡으로 어우러지는 작품으로, 관현악단 황승주(아쟁) 악장, 서정미 대금 수석 단원, 조진용 해금 수석 단원이 협연자로 나서 즉흥 선율과 변주를 통해 음악적 대화를 이어가며, 빠른 장단과 강렬한 리듬으로 춤판의 절정과 같은 에너지와 해방감을 그려낸다.
다음 곡은 민요를 위한 국악관현악‘강원아리랑’(작곡 박한규)은 강원도 대표 민요인‘한오백년’과‘강원도아리랑’을 바탕으로, 소리와 국악관현악이 어우러지는 협연곡이다. 강원특별자치도립국악관현악단 김은정 단원이 협연자로 나서 강원 지역 민요 특유의 애절함과 깊은 정서를 보여준다.
마지막 대미는 동요메들리(작곡 이용탁), 하나의 노래, 애국가(작곡 손다혜)로, 새롬관현악단이 특별출연하며 장식한다.
동요 메들리는 어린 시절의 추억을 불러일으키는 친숙한 동요들을 국악관현악으로 새롭게 구성한 작품이다. 누구나 한 번쯤 흥얼거렸을 노래들을 중심으로, 원곡의 서정적이고 단순한 선율을 살리면서 자진모리·엇모리 등 전통 장단과 국악기의 음색을 더해 다채로운 리듬과 색채감을 표현했다.
이어지는‘하나의 노래, 애국가’는‘애국가’를 주제로 재구성한 관현악 작품으로, 단순한 제창곡을 넘어 공동체의 정체성과 감정의 결속, 그리고 희망의 메시지를 음악적으로 풀어낸다.
이용탁 예술감독은“국악원 개원 40주년을 맞아 강원특별자치도립국악관현악단과 함께하는 이번 무대는 두 지역이 음악으로 하나 되는 뜻깊은 자리”라며 “전통과 창작, 그리고 사람과 사람이 어우러지는 감동의 무대를 통해 관객 여러분께 새로운 봄의 울림을 전하고자 한다”고 밝혔다.
