On April 9th, the inauguration ceremony for the 21st Chairman Kim Jong-gi and the appointment ceremony for the 22nd Chairman Cho Jae-seung were held at the Jeonju YMCA Peace Center. This event marked a new leap after the 100th anniversary of its founding, and it was attended by local religious and civic leaders.
During the first part of the ceremony, Pastor Kim Kyung-geun emphasized the values of life, justice, and peace, based on repentance and reflection, stating that "remembering the 100 years of history is the starting point for opening up a new future."
During the subsequent inauguration ceremony, former Chairman Kim Jong-gi was recognized for his contributions such as establishing a peace fund, opening the Peace Center, and promoting the centennial commemorative projects. Attendees applauded his efforts.
The newly appointed Chairman Cho Jae-seung expressed in his inauguration speech, "I deeply feel the responsibility of standing on top of the 101 years of history," and stated, "I will work with the community to seek God's will and create a Jeonju YMCA where justice and peace flow." He is evaluated as an individual with extensive experience in education and community activities.
The new chairman previously served as the principal of Jeonju Sinheung High School, a director and acting president at Hanil Theological Seminary, and currently serves as an elder at Kimje Dongbu Church and as the vice-chairman of the Jeonju City Council of the Democratic Peace Unification Consultative Council.
전주YMCA, 조재승 이사장 취임… “다음 100년 도약”
지난 4월 9일 전주YMCA 평화센터에서 제21대 김종기 이사장 이임과 제22대 조재승 이사장 취임식이 열렸다. 이번 행사는 창립 100주년 이후 새로운 도약을 알리는 자리로, 지역 교계와 시민사회 인사들이 참석한 가운데 진행됐다.
1부 예배에서 김경근 목사는 “100년의 역사를 기억하는 것이 새로운 미래를 여는 출발점”이라며 회개와 성찰을 바탕으로 생명·정의·평화의 가치를 실천할 것을 강조했다.
이어진 이취임식에서 김종기 전 이사장은 평화기금 조성, 평화센터 개소, 100주년 기념사업 추진 등 공로를 인정받았다. 참석자들은 그의 노고에 박수를 보냈다.
신임 조재승 이사장은 취임사에서 “101년의 역사 위에 선 책임을 깊이 느낀다”며 “공동체와 함께 하나님의 뜻을 찾고, 정의와 평화가 흐르는 전주YMCA를 만들어가겠다”고 밝혔다. 그는 교육과 지역사회 활동을 두루 경험한 인물로 평가된다.
신임 이사장은 전주신흥고등학교 교장과 한일장신대학교 이사 및 총장직무대행을 역임하고, 현재 김제동부교회 장로와 민주평화통일자문회의 전주시협의회 부회장으로 활동 중이다.
