Suncheon County has been finally selected for the 2026 Adult Literacy Education Support Project organized by the Ministry of Education and the National Institute for Lifelong Education Promotion, and is moving forward to expand the foundation for lifelong learning for its residents.
Through this recent selection, the county has secured a total project budget of 43 million won, including government funds, and plans to expand and operate literacy education focusing on real-life situations from basic literacy education to digital utilization education.
This project is not only aimed at improving reading and writing skills but also focuses on helping the elderly and educationally vulnerable groups develop the ability to utilize necessary information in daily life, such as using smartphones, accessing public services, and financial and medical information.
The project will be carried out in three areas: basic literacy education, digital literacy education, and life literacy education. Basic literacy education will be expanded from the existing 6 centers to 10 centers, and smartphone utilization education and life literacy English education will also be conducted to meet various learning demands.
An official from Suncheon County stated, "We hope that residents who have missed learning opportunities can find new vitality in their daily lives," and added, "We will do our best to create an environment for lifelong learning that anyone can easily participate in."
Additional educational target areas will be selected through demand surveys, and residents who wish to participate in the education can inquire at the Suncheon County Administration Office.
순창군, 성인문해교육 지원사업 선정…평생학습 기회 확대
순창군이 교육부와 국가평생교육진흥원이 주관하는 2026년 성인문해교육 지원사업에 최종 선정돼 군민 평생학습 기반 확대에 나선다.
군은 이번 공모 선정으로 국비를 포함해 총 4천300만 원의 사업비를 확보했으며, 이를 바탕으로 기초문해교육부터 디지털 활용 교육까지 실생활 중심의 문해교육을 확대 운영할 계획이라고 밝혔다.
이번 사업은 읽기·쓰기 능력 향상에 그치지 않고 고령층과 교육 취약계층이 스마트폰 사용, 공공서비스 이용, 금융·의료 정보 접근 등 일상에 필요한 정보 활용 능력을 기를 수 있도록 돕는 데 초점이 맞춰졌다.
사업은 기초문해교육, 디지털문해교육, 생활문해교육 등 3개 분야로 추진된다. 기초문해교육은 기존 6개소에서 운영되던 교육장을 10개소로 확대하고, 스마트폰 활용 교육과 생활문해 영어교육도 함께 운영해 다양한 학습 수요에 대응할 예정이다.
순창군 관계자는 “배움의 기회를 놓친 군민들이 일상 속에서 새로운 활력을 찾을 수 있기를 기대한다”며 “앞으로도 누구나 쉽게 참여할 수 있는 평생학습 환경 조성에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
추가 교육 대상지는 수요조사를 거쳐 선정되며, 교육 참여를 희망하는 군민은 순창군청 행정과로 문의하면 된다.
