Jeonju Cultural Foundation (CEO Choi Rak-gi) announced that they have selected 8 emerging artists in Jeonju who will shine in the art world in 2026, and held their first meeting with the selected individuals on the 14th.
The 'Jeonju Emerging Artists' project is a representative youth artist support project that the foundation has been promoting since 2014, serving as a gateway for local young artists and playing a role in their growth. This year, 8 individuals with outstanding abilities in various genres such as literature, Western music, traditional dance, traditional crafts, and multi-art have been selected.
This selection is divided into two types: 'First Presentation' and 'Support Presentation.' In the 'First Presentation' category, visual artist Kim Tae-yeon was selected. Kim will showcase an exhibition conveying a message to modern individuals living in rapidly changing environments and information overload through a work that embodies a floating jellyfish in metal.
In the 'Support Presentation' category, which supports artists in taking a leap forward, a total of 7 individuals including An Yu-hyun, Kim Jong-min, Jung Kang, Moon Kyung-hwan, Roh Tae-ho, Park Jong-hoon, and Ban Jun-hyuk were named. An Yu-hyun in the field of literature will present an original worldview centered around subculture characters like zombies, vampires, and androids through the 'Independent Play - Non-Human Series.' These works will be published as a collection of plays and will also participate in the upcoming 'Jeonju Book Festival' in July.
In the visual arts field, Kim Jong-min will showcase the 'Nature Folding Screen Series,' a modern reinterpretation of traditional Korean folding screens, while Jung Kang will meet with visitors through an exhibition titled 'Light Harvest: Moving Memorial
In the performing arts field, Roh Tae-ho will present a creative dance drama 'Kkokdu - Jeonju Lee Clan' that combines beautiful Korean dance movements and storytellers, while Park Jong-hoon, who is preparing the stage with original songs, will showcase a jazz performance 'S'ING Singing Life.' Ban Jun-hyuk will present a solo concert 'Piccolo Unboxed: Awakening of the Piccolo,' focusing on the piccolo, an instrument that has been traditionally seen as a supporting instrument in orchestras.
The artists will showcase their previously unexhibited creative works through various methods until the end of November in various locations in Jeonju.
Choi Rak-gi, the CEO of the foundation who attended the first meeting with young artists, stated, "The emergence of artists with new perspectives is the most powerful energy that breathes vitality into the local art scene," and expressed, "The foundation will meticulously support the selected artists to grow into leading figures of the next generation."
The 'Jeonju Emerging Artists' project has been discovering new faces in the art world every year and supports artists through various programs such as non-settlement prize support in the form of presentation support funds, providing practice and presentation spaces under the foundation, one-on-one matching with experts and artists in each field, and individual video shooting to help artists focus on their creative activities.
전주문화재단, 신진예술가 8인 발표
전주문화재단(대표이사 최락기)이 2026년 예술계를 빛낼 전주신진예술가 8인을 선정하고, 지난 14일 선정자 간담회를 통해 첫 만남을 가졌다고 밝혔다.
‘전주신진예술가’사업은 재단이 2014년부터 추진해 온 대표 청년예술가 지원사업으로, 지역 청년 예술가들의 등용문이자 성장의 디딤돌 역할을 하고 있다. 올해는 문학, 서양음악, 전통무용, 전통공예, 다원예술 등 다채로운 장르에서 뛰어난 역량을 갖춘 8인이 선정됐다.
이번 선정은‘처음발표’와‘디딤발표’두 유형으로 나뉜다.‘처음발표’유형에는 시각예술가 김태연 씨가 선정됐다. 김 작가는 유영하는 해파리를 금속으로 구현한 작품을 통해, 급변하는 환경과 정보 과잉 속에서 살아가는 현대인들에게 유연하게 나아가라는 메시지를 담은 전시를 선보일 예정이다.
예술가로서 한 단계 도약을 지원하는‘디딤발표’유형에는 안유현, 김종민, 정강, 문경환, 노태호, 박종훈, 반준혁 등 총 7명이 이름을 올렸다. 문학 분야의 안유현 씨는‘독립희곡-비인간 시리즈’를 통해 좀비, 뱀파이어, 안드로이드 등 서브컬처 캐릭터를 중심으로 한 독창적인 세계관을 선보인다. 해당 작품들은 희곡작품집으로 발간되며, 오는 7월 열리는 ‘전주책쾌’에도 참여할 예정이다.
시각 분야에서는 김종민 작가가 우리나라 병풍을 현대적으로 재해석한 ‘자연병풍 시리즈’선보이며, 정강 작가는 공간 탐색을 통해 각종 오브제를 채집하고 그것들을 다시 결합하는 방식의 전시‘빛 채집: 움직이는 기념비
공연 분야에서는 노태호 씨가 한국무용의 아름다운 춤사위와 소리꾼 이야기가 어우러진 창작 무용극‘꼭두-전주이씨전’을, 자작곡으로 무대를 준비 중인 박종훈 씨는 재즈 공연‘S’ING 삶을 노래하다’를 선보인다. 반준혁 씨는 그동안 오케스트라의 보조 악기로 인식됐던 악기 피콜로를 메인으로 한 독주회 ‘Piccolo Unboxed: 피콜로의 깨어남’을 발표한다.
예술가들은 각자가 다양한 방법으로 실험하고 구현한 미발표 창작품들을 오는 11월 말까지 전주시 일원에서 첫선을 보이게 된다.
청년예술가들과의 첫 만남에 함께한 최락기 재단 대표이사는“새로운 시각을 지닌 예술가의 등장은 지역 예술계에 생동감을 불어넣는 가장 강력한 에너지”라며 “선정된 예술가들이 차세대 주역으로 성장할 수 있도록 재단이 세심하게 뒷받침하겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편, ‘전주신진예술가’사업은 매년 예술계 새 얼굴을 발굴해 왔으며 무정산 시상금 형태의 발표지원금 지원, 재단 산하 연습공간 및 발표공간 지원, 분야별 전문가와 예술가 1:1 매칭, 개별 영상 촬영 등 다양한 프로그램을 통해 예술가들이 창작 활동에 집중할 수 있도록 돕고 있다.<끝>
