The '2026 Gold Cup National High School Soccer Tournament', the biggest battleground and cradle of star players for promising young footballers in South Korea, will kick off from May 7th to the 21st for 15 days in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province.
Hosted and organized by the North Jeolla Province Football Association (Chairman Seo Gang-il), this tournament will see a total of 75 teams participating, including 39 teams in the senior division (U18) and 36 teams in the junior division (U17).
The teams will compete in a total of 147 matches across four venues including Wolmyeong Stadium, Gunsan National Sports Center (Daeya), Children's Traffic Park, and Seo Gunsan Stadium, vying for the title of the strongest team in the nation.
The tournament will progress through preliminary leagues, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the main tournament to compete for the championship cup.
This year's tournament is expected to feature high-level matches as strong teams that achieved excellent results in the winter national tournament will be participating.
The focus will be on whether teams from North Jeolla can defend their home turf. Led by Irig High School, which reached the quarterfinals of the 2026 Spring National High School Soccer Tournament, seven teams from North Jeolla including DCTFC U18, Jeonju Technical High School, Gunsan Jeil High School, Saemangeum FC U18, Gochang North High School, and Shin Tae-in Football Center will be aiming for the top spot by utilizing their home advantage.
Facing them will be strong teams from other regions. Teams like Gyeongsin High School, the runner-up of the spring tournament, along with Bo-in High School and Gyeonggi Seohae High School, who showed prowess in the Busan MBC National High School Soccer Tournament, are considered as contenders for the championship. Additionally, last year's champions, Seoul Sangmoon High School, and the runner-up, Gyeongbuk Shinla High School, are also aiming for the top spot, promising intense battles.
The North Jeolla Province Football Association has put great effort into improving the stadium environment to ensure that players can showcase their best skills. Yoo Jong-hee, the executive director of the North Jeolla Province Football Association, stated, "We are running an open dialogue room for parents' convenience and collecting opinions from coaches," adding, "We have thoroughly prepared by improving the stadium environment, such as replacing the grass at Wolmyeong Comprehensive Stadium and Children's Traffic Park football field, conducting hygiene inspections for player safety, and allocating training grounds in cooperation with Gunsan City."
For fans who cannot be present at the venue, all matches from the preliminary rounds will be live-streamed through four YouTube channels of the North Jeolla Province Football Association.
Seo Gang-il, the chairman of the North Jeolla Province Football Association, expressed, "The Gold Cup is the stage where numerous star players have emerged, representing South Korea's youth football," and said, "This tournament will also be a historic moment where new talents responsible for the future of Korean football will emerge."
‘고교 축구 유망주 집결’ 2026 금석배 전국고교축구대회 5월 7일 군산서 개막
- 75개 팀 15일간의 열전… 안방 우승 노리는 전북팀 등 전국 최강자 가려
대한민국 축구 유망주들의 최대 격전지이자 스타 플레이어의 산실인 ‘2026 금석배 전국 고등학생 축구대회’가 오는 5월 7일부터 21일까지 15일간 전북특별자치도 군산시 일원에서 화려한 막을 올린다.
전북특별자치도축구협회(회장 서강일)가 주최·주관하는 이번 대회는 고학년부(U18) 39개 팀과 저학년부(U17) 36개 팀 등 총 75개 팀이 참가한다.
이들은 월명경기장, 군산국민체육센터(대야), 어린이교통공원, 서군산 경기장 등 4개 구장에서 총 147경기를 치르며 전국 최강의 자리를 놓고 한 치 양보 없는 승부를 펼칠 예정이다.
대회는 예선 리그를 거쳐 각 조 1·2위 팀이 본선 토너먼트에 진출해 우승컵을 다투는 방식으로 진행된다.
특히 올해 대회는 동계 전국대회에서 우수한 성적을 거둔 강팀들이 대거 합류해 역대급 수준의 경기가 기대된다.
가장 큰 관심사는 전북 연고 팀들의 ‘안방 사수’ 여부다. 2026 춘계 전국고등축구대회 8강에 오른 이리고등학교를 필두로 전북 DCTFCU18, 전주공업고등학교, 군산제일고등학교, 새만금FCU18, 고창북고등학교, 신태인축구센터 등 7개 팀이 홈 이점을 살려 정상 도전에 나선다.
이에 맞서는 타지 강호들의 전력도 막강하다. 춘계 대회 준우승팀인 경신고를 비롯해, 부산MBC 전국고교축구대회에서 두각을 나타낸 보인고와 경기 서해고가 우승 후보로 거론된다. 또한 전년도 우승팀인 서울 상문고와 준우승팀 경북 신라고도 다시 한번 정상을 노리고 있어 치열한 각축전이 예상된다.
전북특별자치도축구협회는 선수들이 최고의 기량을 발휘할 수 있도록 경기장 환경 개선에도 심혈을 기울였다.
전북특별자치도축구협회 유종희 전무이사는 “학부모 편의를 위한 오픈 대화방 운영과 지도자 대상 의견 수렴을 병행하고 있다”며 “군산시와 협력해 월명종합경기장과 어린이교통공원 축구장 잔디 교체 등 경기장 환경을 개선하고, 선수단 안전을 위한 위생 점검과 훈련구장 배정까지 철저히 준비했다”고 밝혔다.
직접 현장을 찾지 못하는 팬들을 위해 예선부터 모든 경기는 전북특별자치도축구협회 유튜브 4개 채널을 통해 생중계될 예정이다.
서강일 전북특별자치도축구협회장은 “금석배는 수많은 스타 플레이어를 배출해온 대한민국 대표 유소년 무대”라며 “이번 대회 역시 한국 축구의 미래를 책임질 새로운 주역이 탄생하는 역사적인 순간이 될 것”이라고 밝혔다.
