The National Gugak Center (Director Kim Jung-hyun) will present the children's traditional music musical "Byul-i and the Rainbow Bridge" at the National Gugak Center's Yeowon Hall stage on Children's Day, May 5th at 3 p.m. This production is a children's traditional music musical that conveys the meaning of love and responsibility, focusing on encounters and farewells with pet dogs, designed for children and family audiences to empathize together.
"Byul-i and the Rainbow Bridge" is a heartwarming fantasy story depicting the journey of dogs leaving the dog star 'Kkushuralla' for Earth, featuring the beautiful encounter and parting of the pet dog 'Byul-i' and the girl 'Jiyul-i'. Through the familiar theme of dogs, the production aims to make it relatable for children, gently expressing the importance of love, life, and responsibility.
The performance is based on the picture books "Byul-i and the Rainbow Bridge" and "Byul-i and the Star of Earth" (Rohaihoobooks, original work by Hanna) and combines traditional music, creative choreography, songs, and visual elements in a stage format that stimulates the imagination and sensibility of child audiences. Symbolic spaces like the rainbow bridge and cloud hill are recreated on stage to enhance a fairytale-like atmosphere, ensuring a high level of completion for a performance that families can enjoy together.
The direction and adaptation are led by Kim Se-hee, a member of the National Gugak Center's dance troupe, with National Gugak Center members taking on major roles to drive the essence of the play. Scenes involving interaction with the audience and emotion-centered composition help children to engage more intimately with traditional music.
Furthermore, starting two hours before the performance, additional events for children will be held to enhance the enjoyment of Children's Day performance. Prior to the show, various experiences and games can be enjoyed, and after the performance, a photo zone will be set up for taking pictures with the actors to create special memories. The performance lasts for 60 minutes and is suitable for ages 36 months and above. It is free admission, and reservations can be made on a first-come, first-served basis through the National Gugak Center's website (namwon.gugak.go.kr).

국립민속국악원, 어린이날 국악뮤지컬 <별이와 무지개다리> 선보인다
국립민속국악원(원장 김중현)은 오는 5월 5일 어린이날 오후 3시 어린이 국악뮤지컬 <별이와 무지개다리>를 국립민속국악원 예원당 무대에 올린다. 이 작품은 반려견과의 만남과 이별을 중심으로 사랑과 책임의 의미를 전하는 어린이 국악뮤지컬로, 어린이와 가족 관객이 함께 공감할 수 있도록 구성했다.
<별이와 무지개다리>는 강아지별 ‘꾸슈랄라’에서 지구로 떠나는 강아지들의 여정을 그린 따뜻한 판타지 이야기로, 반려견 ‘별이’와 소녀 ‘지율이’의 아름다운 만남과 이별을 담아낸 작품이다. 강아지라는 친숙한 소재를 통해 어린이들이 공감할 수 있도록 했으며, 사랑과 생명의 소중함, 책임의 의미를 따뜻하게 풀어낸다.
공연은 동명의 그림책 『별이와 무지개다리』, 『별이와 지구별』 (로하이후북스, 한나 원작)을 바탕으로 제작되었으며, 국악과 창작 안무, 노래, 영상 요소가 어우러진 무대 형식으로 어린이 관객의 상상력과 감수성을 자극한다. 특히 무지개다리, 구름언덕 등 상징적인 공간을 무대 위에 구현해 동화 같은 분위기를 더하고, 가족 모두가 함께 즐길 수 있는 공연으로 완성도를 높였다.
연출과 각색은 국립민속국악원 무용단 김세희 단원이 맡았으며, 국립민속국악원 단원들이 주요 배역으로 출연해 극의 중심을 이끈다. 관객과 함께 호흡하는 장면과 감정 표현 중심의 구성은 어린이들이 보다 친근하게 국악을 접할 수 있도록 돕는다.
또한 공연 2시간 전부터는 어린이 관객을 위한 부대행사도 함께 운영해 어린이날 공연의 즐거움을 더할 예정이다. 공연 관람 전에는 다양한 체험과 놀이를 즐길 수 있고, 공연 종료 후에는 출연 배우들과 사진을 찍을 수 있는 포토존도 마련해 특별한 추억을 더한다. 공연 시간은 60분이며 36개월 이상부터 관람 가능하다. 전석 무료로 운영되며, 사전 예약은 국립민속국악원 누리집(namwon.gugak.go.kr)에서 선착순으로 진행된다.
