The Jeonbuk branch of the Public Transport Workers' Union (headed by Director Lee Chang-seok) will hold a pre-event for the 136th World Labor Day on April 30th (Thursday) at 5:30 p.m. at Gunsan Sinsong Intersection (across from Lotte Mart).
The pre-event, themed "Let's go beyond the darkness! Towards the dawn of workers!" will be held with key slogans such as △Achieving collective bargaining at the source △Enhancing social publicness △Building a peaceful and equal society △Victory at the workplace of struggle. The organizational goal is 300 participants, with Lee Min-kyung, the head of the Jeonbuk branch of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), among others, scheduled to deliver solidarity speeches.
Background of the pre-event
The pre-event for World Labor Day is an event that inherits the spirit of struggle of senior workers who gathered at the venue of the centennial Labor Day in 1989, breaking through the police blockade. This year, it is arranged as a place to pledge for a society that respects labor and strengthens publicness based on the power that prevented the 'December 3rd Rebellion'.
Solidarity with the Gunsan Struggle for Succession of Employment at the Gunsan Animal Protection Center
The significance of this pre-event being held in Gunsan is special. The Gunsan Animal Protection Center branch of the Jeonbuk Equalization Division has been continuing an indefinite total strike and a tent sit-in in front of the Gunsan City Hall since March 10th. The pre-event carries the character of on-site solidarity supporting their struggle for succession of employment. The program also includes a struggle speech by Branch Manager Ahn Sang-hyun and cultural performances (folk songs and traditional dances) by branch members.
Demand for the June 3 Local Elections
The Jeonbuk branch of the Public Transport Workers' Union will also utilize this pre-event as a platform for policy demands ahead of the June 3 local elections. They plan to announce △Complete public ownership of buses △Strengthening local government responsibility for public healthcare and care services △Stopping privatization and achieving publicization as the core demands of Jeonbuk workers. As a preliminary event, a program for members to write letters to the headquarters titled 'To my real boss' and directly draft demands for the local elections will be held from 4:30 p.m.

공공운수노조 전북본부(본부장 이창석)가 4월 30일(목) 오후 5시 30분, 군산 신송 사거리(롯데마트 건너편)에서 '136주년 세계노동절 전야제'를 개최한다.
전야제는 "어둠을 넘어 가자! 노동자의 새벽으로!"를 주제로, △원청교섭 쟁취 △사회공공성 강화 △평화·평등 세상 건설 △투쟁사업장 승리를 핵심 구호로 내걸고 진행된다. 조직 목표는 300명이며, 민주노총 전북본부 이민경 본부장 등이 연대 발언에 나선다.
전야제 개최 배경
세계노동절 전야제는 1989년 100주년 노동절 당시 경찰의 원천봉쇄를 뚫고 대회 장소에 집결했던 선배 노동자들의 투쟁 정신을 계승하는 행사다. 올해는 '12.3 내란'을 막아낸 저력을 바탕으로 노동 존중 사회와 공공성 강화를 결의하는 자리로 마련됐다.
군산유기동물보호센터 고용승계 투쟁 연대
이번 전야제가 군산에서 열리는 것은 특별한 의미를 갖는다. 전북평등지부 군산유기동물보호센터분회는 무기한 전면파업과 함께 지난 3월 10일부터 군산시청 앞 천막농성을 이어가고 있으며, 전야제는 이들의 고용승계 투쟁 승리를 지지하는 현장 연대의 성격을 띤다. 안상현 분회장의 투쟁발언과 분회원들의 문화 공연(노가바·율동)도 식순에 포함됐다.
6.3 지방선거 요구 표명
공공운수노조 전북본부는 이번 전야제를 6.3 지방선거를 앞둔 정책 요구 무대로도 활용한다. △버스 완전 공영제 △공공의료·돌봄의 지자체 책임 강화 △민영화 중단과 공영화 쟁취를 전북 노동자의 핵심 요구로 발표할 예정이다. 사전 행사로는 조합원들이 원청에 보내는 '나의 진짜 사장에게' 편지 쓰기와 지방선거 요구안 직접 쓰기 프로그램이 오후 4시 30분부터 진행된다
