Muju County's 'Night Tourism Activation Support Project' is gaining attention as a local stay-type tourism content.
According to Muju County, this project is being pursued to increase visitor stay time and revitalize the local economy by utilizing existing tourism resources and local culture. Following the decision to make 'Firefly Mystery Exploration' a permanent event from June to September starting this year, the 'Muju Anseong Nakwha Play' successfully concluded on the 1st.
Despite being a paid event, over 700 people participated in this event organized by the Muju County Tourism Association through advance reservations. Along with watching the Nakwha Play, activities such as making Nakwha sticks and pre-performance were held at the event venue, showcasing the potential of Muju-style night tourism that combines nature and traditional culture.
Lee Yoon-seung, the chairman of the Muju County Tourism Association, stated, "The advance reservation system and paid operation helped manage the number of visitors systematically and create a pleasant viewing environment," adding, "We will expand Muju's unique stay-type tourism programs."
Muju Anseong Nakwha Play is a traditional fireworks display where 'Nakwha sticks,' made by wrapping pine charcoal powder, salt, dried mugwort, etc., in paper, are hung on a line and lit on fire for enjoyment. The sight of the fireworks scattering in the wind resembles falling flowers, hence the name 'Nakwha Play.'
Since 2006, the village of Dumun in Anseong-myeon has been working on the restoration of Nakwha Play, and in 2016, it was designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Jeollabuk-do Province. Currently, the village has a Nakwha Play heritage center for preservation and succession activities.
Muju County plans to develop Muju Anseong Nakwha Play into a stay-type night tourism content beyond a viewing event and nurture it as a sustainable traditional cultural tourism resource by linking it with activities such as Firefly Exploration and Mountain Village Film Festival.
무주군, 야간관광 활성화 사업 본격 추진
무주안성낙화놀이 유료화·예약제 운영…체류형 관광 콘텐츠로 주목
무주군의 ‘야간관광 활성화 지원사업’이 지역 체류형 관광 콘텐츠로 주목받고 있다.
무주군에 따르면 이 사업은 기존 관광자원과 지역 문화를 활용해 방문객 체류시간을 늘리고 지역경제 활성화를 도모하기 위해 추진되고 있다. 군은 올해부터 ‘반딧불이 신비탐사’를 6월부터 9월까지 상설화하기로 한 데 이어, 지난 1일 ‘무주안성낙화놀이’를 성황리에 마무리했다.
무주군관광협의회가 주관한 이번 행사에는 유료화에도 불구하고 사전 예약을 통해 700여 명이 참여했다. 행사장에서는 낙화놀이 관람과 함께 낙화봉 만들기 체험, 식전 공연 등이 진행돼 자연과 전통문화가 어우러진 무주형 야간관광의 가능성을 보여줬다.
이윤승 무주군관광협의회장은 “사전 예약제와 유료화 운영이 관람객 수를 체계적으로 관리하고 쾌적한 관람 환경을 조성하는 데 도움이 됐다”며 “무주만의 체류형 관광 프로그램을 확대해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
무주안성낙화놀이는 뽕나무 숯가루와 소금, 말린 쑥 등을 한지로 감싼 ‘낙화봉’을 줄에 매달아 불을 붙여 즐기는 전통 불꽃놀이다. 불꽃이 바람에 흩날리는 모습이 꽃이 떨어지는 듯해 ‘낙화놀이’로 불린다.
안성면 두문마을에서는 2006년부터 낙화놀이 복원에 나섰으며, 2016년 전북특별자치도 무형유산으로 지정됐다. 현재 마을에는 낙화놀이 전수관이 마련돼 보존과 전수 활동이 이어지고 있다.
무주군은 무주안성낙화놀이를 관람형 행사를 넘어 체류형 야간관광 콘텐츠로 발전시키고, 반딧불이 탐사와 산골영화제 등과 연계해 지속 가능한 전통문화 관광자원으로 육성할 계획이다.
