The Gunsan Modern History Museum is currently hosting a special exhibition titled 'Children's World' on the third floor of the museum, focusing on changing perceptions of children and shedding light on children's lives historically.
This exhibition aims to examine the process of children being respected as individuals rather than mere subjects of protection, and to reflect on the meaning of children's lives, cultures, and the formation of rights throughout different eras.
The exhibition showcases how societal perspectives towards children have evolved from the Joseon Dynasty to the Japanese colonial period, post-liberation, and the Korean War era. It covers topics such as perceptions of children in the Joseon Dynasty, colonial education during the Japanese occupation, the start of Children's Day and children's movements, children's lives during wartime, the establishment of the Children's Charter, and the expansion of rights.
An official from the museum stated, "This exhibition provides an opportunity to explore how children have been discovered and respected as individuals," adding, "We hope that the values of respecting children will continue to be upheld today."
The special exhibition 'Children's World' will be open for viewing until July 19th.
군산근대역사박물관, 기획전시 ‘어린이 세상’ 개최
어린이 인식 변화와 권리 형성 과정 조명
군산근대역사박물관은 어린이를 바라보는 인식 변화와 어린이의 삶을 역사적으로 조명하는 기획전시 ‘어린이 세상’을 박물관 3층 기획전시실에서 열고 있다.
이번 전시는 어린이가 단순한 보호의 대상이 아니라 한 사람의 인격체로 존중받기까지의 과정을 살펴보고, 시대별 어린이의 삶과 문화, 권리 형성의 의미를 되새기기 위해 마련됐다.
전시는 조선시대부터 일제강점기, 광복 이후, 6·25전쟁기를 거쳐 어린이를 바라보는 사회적 시선이 어떻게 변화했는지를 보여준다. 조선시대 어린이 인식, 일제강점기 식민지 교육과 어린이들의 삶, 어린이날의 시작과 어린이운동, 전쟁 속 어린이의 생활, 어린이헌장 제정과 권리 확장 과정 등이 주요 내용이다.
박물관 관계자는 “이번 전시는 어린이가 어떻게 한 사람으로 발견되고 존중받아 왔는지를 살펴보는 자리”라며 “어린이를 존중하는 가치가 오늘날에도 이어지길 바란다”고 말했다.
기획전시 ‘어린이 세상’은 오는 7월 19일까지 관람할 수 있다.
