The Department of Korean Language and Literature at Gunsan National University conducted a literary field study titled 'Literary Field Study with Poet Kim Yong-taek' in the Seomjin River area in Imsil, North Jeolla Province on the 7th.
This field study took place at Kim Yong-taek's 'Small School,' with 31 participants including current students and professors from the Department of Korean Language and Literature. The students walked around the Seomjin River area, experiencing the spaces that inspired Kim's works firsthand and exploring the places where poetry was born.
On that day, poet Kim Yong-taek discussed with the students the theme of 'what is necessary for a person who engages in literature.' He emphasized the importance of reading and attitude for literature majors, stating that "good literature ultimately involves preserving humanity."
The participating students felt the integration of poetry and life as they walked outside the classroom into the literary field. They also had time to reflect on the fact that literature, in the spaces where the landscape of Seomjin River and the poet's life intersect, is an attitude towards life and a process of understanding humanity.
Professor Lee Da-woon, the head of the Department of Korean Language and Literature, stated, "Through this field study, students have made new commitments as literature majors" and added, "They have reaffirmed the fact that preserving literature is preserving humanity."
The Department of Korean Language and Literature at Gunsan National University aims to cultivate experts in K-culture by nurturing talents in storytelling, visual literature and content, writing, and language and humanities fields.
국립군산대 국어국문학과, 김용택 시인과 문학 현장학습
섬진강 일대서 문학의 본질과 전공자의 역할 체험
국립군산대학교 국어국문학과가 지난 7일 전북 임실 섬진강 일대에서 ‘김용택 시인과 함께하는 문학 현장학습’을 진행했다.
이번 현장학습은 김용택 시인의 ‘작은학교’에서 열렸으며, 국어국문학과 재학생과 교수 등 31명이 참여했다. 학생들은 섬진강 일대를 걸으며 김 시인의 작품 배경이 된 공간을 직접 체험하고, 시가 탄생한 삶의 자리를 살펴봤다.
김용택 시인은 이날 ‘문학하는 사람에게 필요한 것’을 주제로 학생들과 대화를 나눴다. 그는 문학 전공자에게 필요한 독서와 태도를 강조하며 “좋은 문학은 결국 인간성을 지키는 일”이라고 말했다.
참여 학생들은 강의실을 벗어나 문학의 현장을 직접 걸으며 시와 삶이 분리되지 않는다는 점을 체감했다. 섬진강의 풍경과 시인의 삶이 맞닿은 공간에서 문학이 삶의 태도이자 인간을 이해하는 과정임을 되새기는 시간도 가졌다.
이다운 국어국문학과장은 “이번 현장학습을 통해 학생들이 문학 전공자로서 새로운 다짐을 하게 됐다”며 “문학을 지키는 일이 인간다움을 지키는 일이라는 사실을 재확인했다”고 밝혔다.
국립군산대 국어국문학과는 K-문화 전문가 양성을 목표로 스토리텔링, 영상문학 및 콘텐츠, 글쓰기, 언어·인문학 분야 인재를 양성하고 있다.
