Jeonbuk Education Office has established a regulatory framework for the stable operation of the International Baccalaureate (IB) education.
Jeonbuk Education Office announced on the 11th that the "Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Education Office International Baccalaureate (IB) Program Operation and Support Ordinance," jointly proposed by Jin Hyeong-seok and Lee Byeong-cheol, Jeonbuk Provincial Assembly members, was promulgated and enforced on the 8th.
This ordinance stipulates the necessary matters for the operation and support of IB programs in schools under Jeonbuk Education Office, providing a legal basis for the financial and administrative support for IB education that has been pursued according to its own plans.
The ordinance contains basic principles of IB program operation, the duty of the Superintendent of Education, financial and administrative support, operational evaluation, and the establishment of a cooperative system necessary for promoting IB education.
Jeonbuk Education Office has been promoting innovation in IB-based classes and assessments since 2024, and as of March 1, 2026, it operates three IB World Schools and 21 candidate schools.
In accordance with the enforcement of the ordinance, the Provincial Education Office plans to strengthen annual support plan development, support at each school level, establishment of the Jeonbuk-style curriculum and assessment model based on IB, and support for IB DP admission linkage.
Jang Ki-yeong, Head of the Future Education Department at Jeonbuk Education Office, stated, "The enactment of this ordinance is a crucial turning point for establishing IB education as a sustainable policy," adding, "We will enhance support to ensure that the achievements of IB-operating schools can spread to the innovation of classes and assessments in general schools."

수업·평가 혁신 위한 제도적 기반 마련
전북교육청이 국제 바칼로레아, IB 교육의 안정적 운영을 위한 제도적 기반을 마련했다.
전북교육청은 진형석·이병철 전북도의원이 공동 발의한 「전북특별자치도교육청 국제 바칼로레아(IB) 프로그램 운영 및 지원 조례」가 지난 8일 공포·시행됐다고 11일 밝혔다.
이번 조례는 전북교육청 소속 학교의 IB 프로그램 운영과 지원에 필요한 사항을 규정한 것으로, 그동안 자체 계획에 따라 추진해 온 IB 교육의 행·재정적 지원 근거를 마련했다는 점에서 의미가 있다.
조례는 IB 프로그램 운영의 기본 원칙, 교육감의 책무, 행·재정적 지원, 운영 평가, 협력체계 구축 등 IB 교육 추진에 필요한 내용을 담고 있다.
전북교육청은 지난 2024년부터 IB 기반 수업·평가 혁신을 추진해 왔으며, 2026년 3월 1일 기준 IB 월드스쿨 3개교와 후보학교 21개교를 운영하고 있다.
도교육청은 조례 시행에 따라 연차별 지원계획 수립, 운영학교 단계별 지원, IB 기반 전북형 수업·평가 모델 구축, IB DP 대입 연계 지원 등을 강화할 계획이다.
장기영 전북교육청 미래교육과장은 “이번 조례 제정은 IB 교육이 지속 가능한 정책으로 자리매김하는 중요한 전환점”이라며 “IB 운영학교의 성과가 일반학교의 수업·평가 혁신으로 확산될 수 있도록 지원을 강화하겠다”고 말했다.
