"Resonance, 2026, on Canvas, 130.3×130.3cm"
Korean painter Jung Mi-hyun's solo exhibition "Wave" will be held as a special exhibition at the Seoul branch of the Jeollabuk-do Provincial Museum from the 4th to June 14th.
Jung Mi-hyun (1964- ) is a contemporary ink artist who has been exploring new possibilities and values of the spirit of ink. By expressing the inspiration from nature and the inner world through the diffusion and brushstrokes of ink, she has been expanding the traditional expression of ink in a modern way. In particular, she collaborates with experimental contemporary musicians who pursue free music to present improvisational ink drawing works while interacting with music.
This exhibition "Wave," planned as an extension of the solo exhibition "Metaphor of Sound" in 2023, expresses the inspiration and resonance conveyed by music through ink. Based on the harmony of symbiosis between music and ink, it delves deeper into the moment when sound and brushstrokes interact. This is also a process of challenging the constraints of concepts, driven by the artist's sense of crisis and the inner turmoil that stems from it.
The new series "Resonance" (2026) starts from an attitude that does not fear cracks and tremors. It captures the inspiration of waves and music, the collision of senses, and the lingering of flows in the quiet and deep silence on the canvas through brushstrokes and diffusion. The artist's attitude of wanting to break away from the sense of completion and stability in form remains on the screen through the diffusion and space of ink, and the raw traces. The artist stated, "I wanted to break the boundaries of the self in the rough and intense actions that occur in the quiet and deep silence and fleeting moments, resonating even with the invisible wind."
After graduating from Jeonbuk University with a degree in art education, Jung Mi-hyun worked as a middle school teacher while pursuing her artistic activities. Since 2020, she has been fully devoted to her work as a professional artist. Starting from her first solo exhibition in 1989, this is her eleventh solo exhibition, and she has been actively participating in over 180 planned and group exhibitions, continuing her vibrant activities.

한국화가 정미현의 개인전 《파동(波動)》이 4일(목)부터 6월 14일까지 전북도립미술관 서울분관에서 대관전으로 열린다.
정미현(1964- ) 작가는 수묵 정신의 새로운 가능성과 가치를 탐구하며 작업해 온 현대 수묵 작가이다. 자연에서 얻은 감흥과 내면의 세계를 수묵의 번짐과 필선으로 풀어내며, 수묵의 전통적 표현을 현대적으로 확장해 오고 있다. 특히 실험적 현대음악을 추구하는 프리뮤직 연주자들과의 협업을 통해 음악과 교감하며 즉흥적인 수묵 드로잉 작업을 선보이고 있다.
이번 전시 《파동(波動)》은 2023년 개인전 《소리의 은유》의 연장선에서 기획된 전시로, 음률이 전해주는 감흥과 울림을 수묵으로 풀어낸다. 음률과 수묵이 만나 이루어내는 상생(相生)의 조화를 바탕으로, 소리와 붓질이 교감하는 순간을 보다 깊이 탐구한다. 이는 작가로서의 위기의식에서 비롯된 내면의 흔들림을 동력 삼아, 관념의 굴레를 벗어나려는 도전의 과정이기도 하다.
신작 〈감응〉(2026) 연작은 균열과 흔들림을 두려워하지 않는 태도에서 출발한다. 고요하고 깊은 침묵 속에서 일어나는 파동과 음률의 감흥, 감각의 충돌과 흐름의 잔향들을 붓질과 번짐의 흔적으로 화면 위에 담아낸다. 완결된 조형의 안정감에서 벗어나고자 하는 작가의 태도는 수묵의 번짐과 여백, 날것의 흔적으로 화면 위에 남는다. 작가는 “보이지 않는 바람에도 감응하며 일어나는 고요하고 깊은 침묵과 찰나의 순간에 다가서는 거칠고 강렬한 모든 작용들 속에서 자아의 경계를 허물고자 하였다”라고 전했다.
정미현 작가는 전북대학교 미술교육과를 졸업한 뒤 중학교 교사로 재직하며 작품 활동을 병행해 왔으며, 2020년 이후 전업 작가로서 본격적인 작품 활동에 전념하고 있다. 1989년 첫 개인전을 시작으로 이번이 열한 번째 개인전이며, 180여 회의 기획전 및 단체전에 참여하며 왕성한 활동을 이어가고 있다.
