This program was planned as a pre-boom-up program to expand public interest before the festival, focusing on the two main aspects of the festival, 'Pansori' and 'World Music'.
The World Music Lecture Concert is operated as a visual-centered program that combines explanations by genre experts with actual data appreciation, aiming to expand the experience of music not just as simple listening but as 'understanding experience'.

In particular, Professor Choi explained Pansori as a comprehensive art that combines sound, story, and performance, rather than just a performing art, based on his publications and research materials, leading the audience to a more comprehensive understanding of Pansori. The data appreciation session that followed utilized Pansori audio materials from top contemporary singers such as Im Bang-wool and Song Man-gab, further enhancing the understanding of the explanatory content.
At the venue, active participation and Q&A sessions from the citizens continued, showing a high level of engagement and establishing a meaningful time to broaden the understanding of traditional arts.
Professor Choi stated, "Through this first session, it was a meaningful time to rethink the essence and artistic value of Pansori," and expressed hope that the general audience could easily understand and approach Pansori through this World Music Lecture Concert.
The second session, scheduled for the 17th at 7 p.m. at the Jeonju Yeonhwajeong Library, will feature music travel writer Shin Kyung-ah. Based on her book "Music Met at the End of the World," she will explore music from various countries through the lens of travel, shedding light on the cultural diversity and formation background of World Music.
The World Music Lecture Concert will be held for free every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Jeonju Yeonhwajeong Library until July 1st, and advance registration is available on the official Sori Festival website (www.sorifestival.com).
2026 전주세계소리축제 <월드뮤직 렉처콘서트> 1회차 성료
전주세계소리축제(조직위원장 최철, 이하 소리축제)가 25주년 특별기획 프로그램으로 선보인 <월드뮤직 렉처콘서트>의 1회차가 지난 10일 전주 연화정도서관에서 성황리에 개최됐다.
이번 프로그램은 축제의 양대 축인 ‘판소리’와 ‘월드뮤직’을 중심으로 본 축제 개최에 앞서 대중의 관심을 확산시키기 위한 사전 붐업(Boom-up) 프로그램으로 기획됐다.
월드뮤직 렉처콘서트는 장르별 전문가의 해설과 실제 자료 감상을 결합한 시청각 중심 프로그램으로 운영되며, 음악을 단순 감상이 아닌 ‘이해하는 경험’으로 확장하는 데 목적을 두고 있다.
1회차는 군산대학교 명예교수이자 판소리 연구자인 최동현 교수가 참여해 <판소리는 어떤 예술인가>를 주제로 진행됐다. 이 자리에서 판소리의 역사적 형성 과정과 예술적 구조, 그리고 전통 서사예술로서의 가치 등을 중심으로 깊이 있는 해설이 이어졌다.
특히 최 교수는 저서 및 연구 자료를 바탕으로 판소리를 단순한 공연 예술이 아닌 ‘소리·이야기·연행이 결합된 종합예술’로 설명하며, 관객들이 판소리를 보다 입체적으로 이해할 수 있도록 이끌었다. 이어진 자료 감상 시간에서는 임방울, 송만갑 등 당대 최고 명창들의 판소리 음원 자료가 함께 활용되며 해설 내용의 이해를 한층 높였다.
현장에서는 시민들의 적극적인 참여와 질의응답이 이어지며 높은 몰입도를 보였고, 전통예술에 대한 이해를 넓히는 의미 있는 시간으로 자리매김했다.
최 교수는 “이번 첫 회차를 통해 판소리의 본질과 예술적 가치를 다시 생각해볼 수 있는 뜻깊은 시간이었다”라며 “일반 관객들이 이번 월드뮤직 렉처콘서트를 통해 판소리를 보다 쉽게 이해하고 접근할 수 있는 계기가 되었기를 바란다”고 밝혔다.
2회차는 오는 17일 오후 7시 전주 연화정도서관에서 음악여행 작가 신경아가 참여한다. 저서 「세상의 끝에서 만난 음악」을 바탕으로 세계 각국의 음악을 여행의 시선으로 풀어내 월드뮤직의 문화적 다양성과 형성 배경을 함께 조명할 예정이다.
월드뮤직 렉처콘서트는 7월 1일까지 매주 수요일 오후 7시 전주 연화정도서관에서 무료로 진행되며 현재 소리축제 공식홈페이지(www.sorifestival.com)에서 사전 접수가 가능하다.
