A special exhibition highlighting the memories and historical culture of the city captured in old photos of Jeonju Hanok Village will be held.
Jeonju Hanok Village Office and Jeonju Hanok Village History Museum will be hosting the special exhibition titled "Alley of Time, Jeonju Hanok Village 2026" at the Jeonju Hanok Village History Museum Planning Exhibition Hall from the 23rd of last month until October 18.
This special exhibition was planned to introduce the formation and transformation process of Jeonju Hanok Village through old photo materials of Jeonju's representative historical and cultural heritage such as Gyeonggijeon, Pungnammun, Omokdae, Jeondong Cathedral, as well as old photos of Jeonju Cheon, Hanbyeokdang, and Jogyeongmyo.
In particular, this exhibition is focused on conveying to citizens and tourists the diverse aspects of Jeonju Hanok Village, where the historical significance of Jeonju, traditional culture, modern industry, and lifestyle have coexisted beyond a simple tourist destination image.
Under the theme of "Homeland of the Joseon Dynasty, Jeonju," visitors can glimpse the historical connection between the Joseon royal family and Jeonju through old photo materials of Gyeonggijeon, Jogyeongmyo, Omokdae, Hanbyeokdang, and more.
Furthermore, under the theme of "Jeonju Fortress and the City's Transformation," the exhibition introduces the formation of Jeonju's urban landscape and changes in lifestyle culture using photos of Pungnammun, Jeonju Cheon, downtown Jeonju, and Pungnakheon.
Additionally, under the theme of "Coexistence of Tradition and Modern Culture," the exhibition showcases modern industrial-related photo materials such as Culture Pencil, Baekyang Maryas Factory, along with Jeondong Cathedral, illustrating the changes in industry and citizen life formed in the Jeonju Hanok Village area.
This special exhibition can be viewed for free every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding Mondays, the closing day of Jeonju Hanok Village History Museum.
Im Cheong-jin, head of Jeonju Hanok Village Office, stated, "Through the memories and traces of life captured in old photos of Jeonju Hanok Village, this special exhibition was planned to offer a fresh perspective on Jeonju's history and culture," adding, "I hope this exhibition will serve as an opportunity for citizens and tourists to empathize and remember the various aspects of Jeonju Hanok Village, where tradition and modernity coexist, not just as the homeland of the Joseon Dynasty."
Jeonju Hanok Village History Museum, hosting this special exhibition, serves as an exhibition hall introducing the formation and history of Jeonju Hanok Village. Since its opening in 2018, it has attracted over 50,000 visitors annually. The museum has been hosting special exhibitions twice a year since its opening, and has played a role as a communication platform introducing Jeonju Hanok Village to tourists through storytelling by cultural experts.
전주한옥마을역사관, 전주한옥마을 옛 모습 특별전 열려
전주한옥마을의 옛 사진 속에 담긴 도시의 기억과 역사문화를 조명하는 특별한 전시회가 열린다.
전주시 한옥마을사업소와 전주한옥마을역사관은 지난 23일부터 오는 10월 18일까지 전주한옥마을역사관 기획전시실에서 2026년 특별전 ‘시간의 골목, 전주한옥마을’을 진행한다.
이번 특별전은 경기전과 풍남문, 오목대, 전동성당 등 전주를 대표하는 역사문화유산과 전주천, 한벽당, 조경묘 등의 옛 사진 자료를 통해 전주한옥마을의 형성과 변화 과정을 소개하기 위해 기획됐다.
특히 이번 전시는 단순한 관광지의 이미지를 넘어 조선 왕조의 본향으로서 전주의 역사성과 전통문화, 그리고 근대 산업과 생활 문화가 공존해 온 전주한옥마을의 다양한 모습을 시민과 관광객들에게 전달하는 데 초점이 맞춰졌다.
이번 전시에서는 ‘조선 왕조의 본향, 전주’를 주제로 경기전과 조경묘, 오목대, 한벽당 등의 옛 사진 자료를 통해 조선 왕실과 전주의 역사적 연관성을 엿볼 수 있다.
또한 ‘전주부성과 도시의 변화’를 주제로 한 전시에서는 풍남문과 전주천, 전주 시가지, 풍락헌 등의 사진을 활용해 전주의 도시 형성과 생활 문화 변화를 소개한다.
이와 함께 ‘전통과 근대문화의 공존’를 주제로 한 전시에서는 전동성당과 함께 문화연필, 백양메리야스 공장 등의 근대 산업 관련 사진 자료가 전시돼 전주한옥마을 일대에서 형성된 산업과 시민 생활의 변화를 확인할 수 있다.
이번 특별전은 전주한옥마을역사관 휴무일인 매주 월요일을 제외한 매일 오전 10시부터 오후 6시까지 무료로 관람할 수 있다.
임청진 전주시 한옥마을사업소장은 이번 “이번 특별전은 전주한옥마을의 옛 사진 속에 담긴 도시의 기억과 삶의 흔적을 통해 전주의 역사와 문화를 새롭게 바라볼 수 있도록 기획했다”면서 “조선 왕조의 본향으로서의 역사성뿐만 아니라 전통과 근대가 공존해 온 전주한옥마을의 다양한 모습을 시민과 관광객들이 함께 공감하고 기억하는 계기가 되길 바란다”고 말했다.
한편, 이번 특별전을 개최하는 전주한옥마을역사관은 전주한옥마을의 형성과 변천사를 소개하는 전시관으로, 지난 2018년 개관 이후 연평균 약 5만 명 이상의 관람객이 방문하고 있다. 역사관은 개관 이후 해마다 2회 이상 특별 전시를 개최하고, 학예사가 들려주는 전주한옥마을 이야기를 진행하는 등 전주한옥마을 방문하는 관광객에게 전주한옥마을을 소개하는 소통의 장 역할을 해왔다.
