A place where you can see the present and future of printmaking art in the Jeonbuk region at a glance is being prepared.
The Sehakdong Photo Art Museum will host the fifth printmaking exhibition, 'Printmaking New Carving 5,' from June 30 to July 12.
Celebrating its fifth year this year, this exhibition has firmly established itself as the leading brand of the art museum, recording the flow of regional printmaking art closely and sharing artists' creative passion with the citizens.
Over the past five years, the 'New Carving' exhibition has been praised for introducing the somewhat unfamiliar genre of printmaking to the public and expanding the base of regional art enthusiasts. With the continuous planning of the art museum and the passion of the artists, the exhibition has been attracting a steadily increasing number of loyal visitors who come to support the artists' new works and collect pieces with a light heart.
As of 2026, we are passing through an era of tremendous upheaval, characterized by international instability, climate crisis, and the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI). In an age where technology is replacing human labor, the value of 'printmaking,' which requires a significant amount of time and strenuous physical labor, shines even brighter paradoxically.
Even in the harsh reality where educational institutions related to printmaking are gradually disappearing within universities, printmakers in the region continue to hold onto the thread of creation through solidarity and networks.
This exhibition features established artists actively working in the Jeonbuk region and young artists who will lead the future.
A total of 16 participants, including artists such as Kim Soo-jin, Kim Eok, Kim Young-ran, Kim Ha-yoon, Park Maria, Park Hyun-jin, Seo In-hae, Oh Hye-young, Yoo Dae-soo, Lee Myung-ja, Lee Eun-kyung, and Cho Jin-sung, as well as students Kim Seo-jin, Lee Yoo-min, Han Dong-kyung from Jeonbuk University, and Professor Moon Chae-won who guides them, have come together. It is expected to be exciting to compare the diverse perspectives and unique printmaking techniques of various generations in one place.
A special time for communication is also arranged. On the first weekend of the exhibition, on July 4 (Saturday) at 3 p.m., there will be a 'Conversation with the Artists' event where participating artists will be present in large numbers. It is an opportunity to directly hear the behind-the-scenes stories hidden in the works, the intricate production process, and the unique charm that printmaking holds, all in the vivid voices of the artists.
An official from the Sehakdong Photo Art Museum stated, "When various genres of art coexist, the regional art ecosystem becomes even healthier. This exhibition will be a meaningful opportunity to come face to face with the fierce creative spirit of regional printmakers and the true essence of printmaking art."

전북 지역 판화예술의 현재와 미래를 한눈에 조망할 수 있는 자리가 마련된다.
서학동사진미술관은 6월 30일부터 7월 12일까지 다섯 번째 판화기획전 ‘판화 새김 5’를 개최한다.
올해로 5회째를 맞이한 이 전시는 지역 판화예술의 흐름을 촘촘히 기록하고, 작가들의 창작 열정을 시민들과 공유하는 미술관의 대표 브랜드로 확고히 자리 잡았다.
지난 5년간 '새김'전은 대중에게 다소 낯설 수 있는 판화라는 장르를 친숙하게 소개하며 지역 예술 애호가들의 저변을 넓혀왔다는 평가를 받는다. 미술관의 지속적인 기획과 작가들의 열정이 시너지를 내면서, 매년 전시장을 찾아 작가들의 신작을 응원하고 가벼운 마음으로 작품을 소장하는 충성도 높은 관람객 층도 꾸준히 늘어나는 추세다.
2026년 현재 우리는 국제 정세의 불안, 기후위기, 그리고 인공지능(AI)의 급속한 발전이라는 거대한 격변의 시대를 통과하고 있다. 기술이 인간의 노동을 대체하는 시대에, 역설적이게도 많은 시간과 고된 육체적 노동을 필요로 하는 '판화'의 가치는 더욱 빛을 발한다.
오늘날 대학 내 관련 교육기관이 점차 사라지는 척박한 현실 속에서도, 지역의 판화가들은 연대와 네트워크를 통해 창작의 끈을 놓지 않고 있다.
이번 전시에는 전북 지역을 무대로 활발히 활동 중인 기성 작가들과 미래를 이끌어갈 청년 작가들이 함께 이름을 올렸다.
김수진, 김억, 김영란, 김하윤, 박마리아, 박현진, 서인해, 오혜영, 유대수, 이명자, 이은경, 조진성 작가를 비롯해 전북대학교 김서진, 이유민, 한동경 학생과 이들을 지도하는 문채원 교수까지 총 16인이 참여한다. 다양한 세대의 개성 넘치는 시선과 독창적인 판화 기법을 한자리에서 비교해 보는 재미가 쏠쏠할 것으로 기대된다.
특별한 소통의 시간도 마련된다. 전시 첫 주말인 7월 4일(토) 오후 3시에는 참여 작가들이 대거 참석하는 '작가와의 대화'가 열린다. 작품에 숨겨진 비하인드 스토리와 정교한 제작 과정, 판화만이 가진 독특한 매력을 작가의 생생한 목소리로 직접 들을 수 있는 기회다.
서학동사진미술관 관계자는 "미술의 다양한 장르가 공존할 때 지역 예술 생태계는 더욱 건강해집니다. 이번 전시는 지역 판화 작가들의 치열한 창작 정신과 판화예술의 진면목을 가까이서 마주하는 뜻깊은 기회가 될 것이다"고 했다.
