The Jeonju World Sound Festival (organized by Chairman Choi Cheol, hereinafter referred to as the Sound Festival) has confirmed the 4 teams that will advance to the final round of '2026 Sound NEXT - Sound Frontier'.
'Sound Frontier' is a representative incubating program of the Sound Festival that discovers and nurtures creators and organizations in the field of traditional arts music, and supports their entry into domestic and international performance markets. This year, it is operated as a growth platform connecting creators and performance markets in conjunction with the 'Sound NEXT' project, which is part of the 'Festival Selected for Genre Market Hub Support Project' sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the (Korea Arts Management Service).
In the previous open call, traditional music-based creators and organizations from all over the country applied, and on the 24th, a second live audition was held for the teams that passed the audio and video screening. The judging panel evaluated artistic and originality, potential for development, domestic and international market competitiveness, and selected a total of 4 teams including Hwang Jin-a, Modern Korean Music Project Chaoreum, Oreum Sae, and Audrey as the teams advancing to the final round.
Hwang Jin-a is a geomungo soloist and creator who has built a solo geomungo music world combining traditional music with post-rock, ambient, and techno. She has gained attention on major stages both domestically and internationally through her representative repertoire 'Scene' series.
Modern Korean Music Project Chaoreum is a creative group based in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, continuing the fusion of Korean traditional music with music, performances, and genre fusion, conveying contemporary stories through Korean traditional music. They showcase sounds that resonate with today, from the hidden aspects of society to daily records, demonstrating the power of creative arts in North Jeolla Province.
Oreum Sae is a theatrical band founded in 2025, presenting dynamic performances that combine singing and band sounds with flashy theatrical performances, and continuing to challenge domestic and international stages.
Audrey is a trio of creators active in gayageum ensemble, presenting music that adds strong rhythms to the resonance of traditional gayageum and building a cinematic rhythm ensemble.
The teams advancing to the final round will participate in a residency workshop called 'Super Week' from July 14th to 17th, where they will receive one-on-one mentoring from experts, lectures, and discussions, and will perform on the showcase stage of the 2026 Sound Festival on August 12th to 13th.
The Sound Festival provides the final round teams with showcase case fees, expert consulting, performance venue and technical support, promotion through media and SNS, and also supports opportunities for showcasing at the Jarasum Jazz Festival. The winning team will receive opportunities for overseas showcases, cooperation projects with Seoul Art Market, and exchange performances at the Gangneung Dan-Oje Festival, both domestically and internationally.
Kim Jung-soo, Executive Director of the Sound Festival, stated, "The four teams selected this year are teams that have shown new possibilities of traditional music with their unique personalities and creative abilities," and added, "Through Super Week and the showcase, we will actively support them to enhance the completeness of their works and advance to the world stage."
세계소리축제 ‘소리프론티어’최종 본선에 황진아·차오름·오름새·오드리 진출

전주세계소리축제(조직위원장 최철, 이하 소리축제)가 ‘2026 소리 NEXT - 소리프론티어’최종 본선에 진출할 4개 팀을 확정했다.
‘소리프론티어’는 전통예술 음악 분야의 창작자와 단체를 발굴·육성하고 국내외 공연시장 진출을 지원하는 소리축제 대표 인큐베이팅 프로그램이다. 올해도 문화체육관광부와 (재)예술경영지원센터가 후원하는 ‘장르별 시장 거점화 지원사업 선정 축제’의 일환인 <소리 NEXT> 사업과 연계해 창작자와 공연시장을 잇는 성장형 플랫폼으로 운영된다.
지난 공개모집에는 전국 각지의 전통음악 기반 창작자와 단체들이 지원했으며, 음원·영상 심사를 통과한 팀들을 대상으로 지난 24일 2차 실연 심사가 진행됐다. 심사위원단은 예술성과 독창성, 발전 가능성, 국내외 시장 경쟁력 등을 종합적으로 평가해 ▲황진아 ▲모던국악프로젝트 차오름 ▲오름새 ▲오드리 등 총 4개 팀을 본선 진출팀으로 선정했다.
황진아는 거문고 솔리스트이자 창작자로, 전통음악을 기반으로 포스트록, 엠비언트, 테크노를 결합한 솔로 거문고 음악세계를 구축해왔다. 대표 레퍼토리인 ‘Scene’ 시리즈를 통해 국내외 주요 무대에서 주목받고 있다.
모던국악프로젝트 차오름은 전북 전주를 기반으로 활동하는 창작단체로써 퓨전국악을 바탕으로 음악과 공연, 장르 융합을 이어가며 동시대의 이야기를 국악으로 전한다. 사회의 이면부터 일상의 기록까지 오늘을 공감하게 하는 소리를 선보이며 전북 창작예술의 저력을 보여주고 있다.
오름새는 2025년 창단한 연희밴드로, 화려한 연희 퍼포먼스에 노래와 밴드 사운드를 결합한 역동적인 공연을 선보이며 국내외 무대를 향한 도전을 이어가고 있다.
오드리는 가야금 앙상블로 활동하는 3인조 창작팀으로, 전통 가야금의 울림에 강렬한 리듬을 더한 음악을 선보이며 시네마틱 리듬 앙상블을 구축하고 있다.
본선 진출팀은 7월 14일부터 17일까지 진행되는 합숙형 워크숍 ‘슈퍼위크’에서 전문가 1대1 멘토링, 강연, 토론을 거쳐 8월 12일~13일 2026 소리축제 본선 쇼케이스 무대에 오른다.
소리축제는 본선 진출팀에게 쇼케이스 사례비와 전문가 컨설팅, 공연장 및 기술 지원, 언론·SNS 등을 통한 홍보를 제공하며, 자라섬재즈페스티벌 쇼케이스 기회도 지원한다. 최종 1위 팀에게는 해외 쇼케이스와 서울아트마켓 협력사업, 강릉단오제 교류 공연 등 국내외 진출 기회가 주어진다.
김정수 소리축제 집행위원장은 “올해 선정된 네 팀은 저마다의 개성과 창작 역량으로 전통음악의 새로운 가능성을 보여준 팀들”이라며 “슈퍼위크, 쇼케이스를 통해 작품의 완성도를 높이고 세계 무대로 나아갈 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.
