Jeonbuk Education Office Expands Support for Low-Income Students' PC and Internet Communication Expenses

The Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education announced on the 3rd that they will be implementing an educational information support project to stably support the online learning environment for children from low-income families and to reduce educational inequality caused by information disparities.

The computer support targets elementary school students to first-year high school students among recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security System and single-parent family support. Internet communication expenses will be supported for elementary school students to high school students among recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security System, legally defined upper-class, single-parent family support, North Korean defectors, recognized refugees, or their children.

Especially this year, in accordance with the Ministry of Education's policy to expand support for vulnerable groups, the number of computers supported has been increased from the existing 500 units to 1,070 units. The total budget for this initiative is 1.8 billion Korean won.

The internet communication expenses will be supported from July this year to June next year after the selection process of recipients is completed. The support amount is 17,600 Korean won per month per household for one line.

Jang Kyung-dan, head of the School Safety Department, said, "Computers and the internet are the basic conditions for learning in the digital age," and stated, "We will strive to achieve educational welfare and reduce educational disparities so that economic conditions do not limit students' educational opportunities."
