The Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education announced on the 3rd that it will intensively operate a one-month training program for teachers titled 'Enhancing Capacities for Responding to and Preventing Adolescent E-cigarette Use' in July to address the spread of youth e-cigarette use.
The training, targeting over 700 teachers, is designed to enhance prevention education and student counseling capabilities at schools in response to the changing environment, including the recent increase in the use of liquid-type e-cigarettes and related legal amendments.
The training will involve vice principals, teachers in charge of smoking prevention, and teachers in charge of student counseling from all levels of schools. The main contents include the current status of adolescent liquid-type e-cigarette use, the risks associated with e-cigarettes and new types of drugs, legal amendments, and preventive education and counseling methods applicable at schools.
In particular, in the advanced smoking prevention and smoke-free school teacher training, immersive education will be conducted using VR content to experience the health risks of smoking and situations where smoking is encouraged, and to learn coping methods.
The Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education plans to strengthen the prevention system by providing smoking prevention materials to parents every month and supporting tailored smoking cessation counseling for smoking students reflecting individual characteristics.
Im Young-geun, head of the Department of Culture, Arts, and Health, said, "E-cigarettes are not just a simple smoking issue but a new risk factor threatening the health and safety of adolescents," and added, "We will establish a tight prevention safety net with schools and families participating together."
전북교육청, 교원 대상 전자담배 대응·흡연예방 연수 운영
전북교육청은 청소년 전자담배 확산에 대응하기 위해 교원 대상 ‘전자담배 대응 및 흡연예방 역량강화 연수’를 7월 한 달간 집중 운영한다고 3일 밝혔다.
이번 연수는 교원 700여 명을 대상으로 진행되며, 최근 액상형 전자담배 사용 증가와 관련 법규 개정 등 변화하는 환경에 맞춰 학교 현장의 예방교육과 학생지도 역량을 높기 위해 마련됐다.
연수에는 각급 학교 교감, 흡연예방 담당교사, 생활지도 담당교사 등이 참여한다. 주요 내용은 청소년 액상형 전자담배 사용 실태, 전자담배와 신종 마약의 연계 위험성, 개정 법규, 학교 현장에서 적용 가능한 예방교육 및 생활지도 방안 등이다.
특히 심화형 흡연예방·금연실천학교 담당교사 연수에서는 VR 콘텐츠를 활용해 흡연의 건강 위해성과 흡연 권유 상황을 체험하고 대처 방법을 익히는 몰입형 교육도 운영한다.
전북교육청은 학부모 대상 흡연예방 자료를 매월 제공하고, 흡연 학생에게는 개인별 특성을 반영한 맞춤형 금연상담을 지원하는 등 학교와 가정이 함께하는 예방체계도 강화할 계획이다.
임영근 문예체건강과장은 “전자담배는 단순한 흡연 문제가 아니라 청소년 건강과 안전을 위협하는 새로운 위험요인”이라며 “학교와 가정이 함께 참여하는 촘촘한 예방 안전망을 구축하겠다”고 말했다.
