The National University of Gunsan's Industry-Academia Cooperation Division announced on the 6th that they have signed an industry-academia cooperation agreement with KSC Corporation and agricultural company NJ Medical Co., Ltd. to promote education, research, and industry-academia cooperation using the agricultural land in Saemangeum.
This agreement was made to utilize the 9.5ha of Saemangeum University Test Field leased by the National University of Gunsan from the Korea Rural Community Corporation's Saemangeum Project Team for student education, crop cultivation verification, soil improvement research, and collaborative business projects.
The National University of Gunsan plans to verify the cultivation of functional crops with NJ Medical Co., Ltd., and research the potential for food production and processing in the future. They will also collaborate with KSC Corporation on technology development for soil improvement in reclaimed land and verification of tree management techniques for climate change adaptation.
In particular, the university will provide students with practical training opportunities in soil environmental management, crop cultivation, and agricultural product utilization. They aim to develop the Saemangeum University Test Field into a practical education site for the convergence of agriculture and AI by incorporating AI and data analysis in the field of agricultural life.
Professor Jung Seung-woo of the Environmental Engineering Department at the National University of Gunsan stated, "This agreement marks the first step in utilizing the Saemangeum University Test Field as a site where university education and corporate research take place together," adding, "It will help establish the foundation for the development of the regional agricultural industry."
국립군산대, 새만금 대학시험포 현장실증 산학협력 추진
국립군산대학교 산학협력단은 6일 ㈜KSC, 농업법인 NJ메디컬㈜와 새만금 대학시험포 현장실증 산학협력 계약을 체결하고, 새만금 농생명용지를 활용한 교육·연구·산학협력 사업을 본격 추진한다고 밝혔다.
이번 계약은 국립군산대가 한국농어촌공사 새만금사업단으로부터 임대한 새만금 대학시험포 9.5ha를 활용해 학생 교육, 작물 재배 실증, 토양개량 연구, 기업 협력사업을 함께 추진하기 위해 마련됐다.
국립군산대는 NJ메디컬㈜와 기능성 작물 재배를 실증하고, 향후 식품화와 가공 가능성을 연구할 계획이다. 또 ㈜KSC와는 간척지 토양개량 기술개발과 기후변화 대응 수목 관리 기술 실증에 나선다.
특히 대학은 학생들에게 토양 환경 관리, 농작물 재배, 농업부산물 활용 등 현장실습 기회를 제공하고, 농생명 분야에 AI와 데이터 분석을 접목해 새만금 대학시험포를 농생명·AI 융합 실증 교육 현장으로 발전시킬 방침이다.
정승우 국립군산대 환경공학과 교수는 “이번 계약은 새만금 대학시험포를 대학 교육과 기업 연구가 함께 이루어지는 현장으로 활용하는 첫걸음”이라며 “지역 농생명 산업 발전의 기반을 마련할 수 있을 것”이라고 말했다.
