Jeonju Cultural Foundation (CEO Choi Rak-gi) is hosting the "6th National Children's Hanji Art Contest" to share the value of Hanji, which is currently being promoted for UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage listing, with the next generation.
This contest is designed to promote the artistic value of Hanji, our unique cultural heritage with a long history and tradition, and to increase the interest of future generations. Since 2021, efforts have been made to promote Hanji culture by hosting the national children's Hanji art contest in conjunction with the "Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival (Jeonju International Hanji Industry Fair)."
This year, the slogan of the contest is "Drawing the Future in Tradition," aiming to reflect on the significance of Hanji, which is currently being promoted for UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage listing in its birthplace of Jeonju, and to raise the interest and pride of the next generation.
The theme for submissions is "Draw the Me as an Adult, Hello to the Me of the Future!" Participating children are encouraged to freely express their envisioned future selves on Hanji.
The contest has three categories: preschool (ages 5-7), lower grades of elementary school (grades 1-3), and upper grades of elementary school (grades 4-6). There are no restrictions on materials and techniques, allowing children to freely showcase their creativity and individuality.
Prizes include Grand Prize (1 per category, sponsored by the Superintendent of Education in Jeollabuk-do), Excellent Prize (1 per category, sponsored by the Mayor of Jeonju), Outstanding Prize (1 per category, sponsored by the Chairman of the Jeonju City Council), Encouragement Prize (2 points per category, sponsored by the CEO of Jeonju Cultural Foundation), and Special Prize (sponsored by the CEO of Jeonju Cultural Foundation, number of prizes undetermined). Winners will receive certificates and cultural gift vouchers.
Children who wish to participate can visit the Hanji Industry Support Center to receive Hanji paper, create their artwork, and submit it along with the application form by August 21.
Choi Rak-gi, CEO of Jeonju Cultural Foundation, expressed his hope that "the millennium-old Hanji will become a seed that continues to draw another millennium in the hands of children" and stated, "I hope this contest will be a meaningful opportunity to nurture the imagination and cultural pride of the next generation growing up with Hanji."
The award-winning works from this contest will be exhibited during the 30th Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival (2026 Jeonju International Hanji Industry Fair) scheduled for October.
제6회 전국 어린이 한지 미술대회’ 개최
전주문화재단(대표이사 최락기)이 유네스코 인류무형문화유산 등재를 추진 중인 한지의 가치를 다음 세대와 나누기 위해 「제6회 전국 어린이 한지 미술대회」를 개최한다.
이번 대회는 오랜 역사와 전통을 지닌 우리 고유의 문화유산인 한지의 예술적 가치를 널리 알리고 미래 세대의 관심을 높이기 위해 마련됐다. 지난 2021년부터 ‘전주한지문화축제(전주국제한지산업대전)’과 연계해 전국 어린이 한지 미술대회를 개최하며 한지 문화 확산에 힘써오고 있다.
특히 올해는 천년 한지의 본향인 전주에서 유네스코 인류무형문화유산 등재를 추진 중인 한지의 의미를 함께 되새기고, 다음 세대의 관심과 자긍심을 높이기 위해‘전통에 그려보는 미래’를 대회 슬로건으로 정했다.
출품 주제는 ‘어른이 된 나를 그려요, 미래의 나에게 안녕!’으로 참가 어린이들은 자신이 꿈꾸는 미래의 모습을 한지 위에 자유롭게 표현해 출품하면 된다.
참가 대상은 유치부(5~7세), 초등학교 저학년(1~3학년), 고학년(4~6학년) 등 3개 부문이며, 표현 재료와 기법에는 제한을 없애 아이들의 창의성과 개성을 마자유롭게 담아낼 수 있다.
시상은 ▲대상(전북특별자치도교육감상, 부문별 1명) ▲최우수상(전주시장상, 부문별 1명) ▲우수상(전주시의회 의장상, 부문별 1명) ▲장려상(전주문화재단대표이사상, 부문별 2점) ▲특별상(전주문화재단대표이사상, 미정) 등이며, 수상자에게는 상장과 함께 문화상품권이 부상으로 수여된다.
참가를 희망하는 어린이는 한지산업지원센터를 방문해 한지 도화지를 수령한 뒤, 작품과 참가 신청서를 8월 21일까지 제출하면 된다.
최락기 전주문화재단 대표이사는 “천년을 이어온 한지가 아이들의 손끝에서 또 다른 천년을 그려나가는 씨앗이 되기를 바란다”며 “이번 대회가 한지와 함께 자라나는 다음 세대의 상상력과 문화적 자긍심을 키우는 뜻깊은 계기가 되길 바란다”고 말했다.
한편, 이번 대회 입상작은 오는 10월 개최되는 제30회 전주한지문화축제(2026 전주국제한지산업대전) 기간 중 전시될 예정이다.
