The Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education announced on the 7th that they will conduct '2026 English Focus School Second-Half Field Consulting' to enhance the quality of English public education and solidify English education at school sites.
This year, English focus schools are being operated in a total of 17 schools, including 8 elementary schools and 9 middle schools. Each school is implementing various programs to enhance students' English communication skills and expand opportunities for exposure to English.
English focus schools are divided into 'English curriculum-based' schools that operate student-centered English classes and 'English immersion-based' schools that conduct English and general subject classes in English, expanding opportunities for English use within the regular curriculum.
The second-half field consulting is designed to examine the unique situations of English education programs at each school and to discover and disseminate excellent teaching practices. The consulting team will visit each school directly according to their schedules until October.
During the consulting, the focus will be on establishing educational environments, operating curriculum plans, and budget utilization status, with plans to identify excellent practices and areas for improvement to be reflected in future policy initiatives.
Oh Ji-sook, head of the Creative Talent Education Department, stated, "The purpose of this consulting is to thoroughly examine the operation process of English focus schools and identify areas for improvement and enhancement," adding, "We will support efforts to enhance students' English proficiency and improve English classes."
전북교육청, 영어중점학교 하반기 현장 컨설팅 실시
전북교육청은 영어 공교육의 질을 높이고 학교 현장의 영어교육 내실화를 위해 ‘2026년 영어중점학교 하반기 현장 컨설팅’을 실시한다고 7일 밝혔다.
올해 영어중점학교는 초등학교 8개교, 중학교 9개교 등 모두 17개교에서 운영되고 있다. 각 학교는 학생들의 영어 의사소통 능력 향상과 영어 노출 기회 확대를 위한 다양한 프로그램을 추진하고 있다.
영어중점학교는 학생 참여 중심 영어 수업을 운영하는 ‘영어교과형’과 영어 및 일반 교과 수업을 영어로 진행하며 정규 교육과정 안에서 영어 사용 기회를 확대하는 ‘영어몰입형’으로 나뉘어 운영된다.
하반기 현장 컨설팅은 학교별 특색 있는 영어교육과정 운영 상황을 살피고, 우수 수업 사례를 발굴·확산하기 위해 마련됐다. 컨설팅단은 오는 10월까지 학교별 일정에 맞춰 직접 학교를 방문한다.
컨설팅에서는 교육환경 구축, 교육과정 운영 계획, 예산 사용 현황 등을 중점 점검하고, 우수사례와 개선 사항을 찾아 향후 정책 추진에 반영할 계획이다.
오지숙 창의인재교육과장은 “이번 컨설팅은 영어중점학교 운영 과정을 면밀히 살피고 개선점과 보완점을 찾는 데 목적이 있다”며 “학생들의 영어 역량을 키우고 영어 수업을 개선할 수 있도록 지원하겠다”고 말했다.
