The Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education will hold a "2026 Elementary School Autonomous Time Operation Professional Growth Workshop" at the Changjo Narae Audiovisual Room on the 7th to expand the autonomy and diversity of school curricula.
About 250 elementary school teachers and educational professionals will participate in this workshop, which is designed to support the stable operation of autonomous school time, a core policy of the revised 2022 curriculum, and share excellent on-site practices.
Autonomous school time is an educational program in which schools directly establish and operate new subjects or activities not presented in the national curriculum, reflecting the local and school conditions and students' needs.
The Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education currently offers and operates a total of 39 approved subjects, including 18 subjects for elementary 3rd and 4th graders in 2024 and 21 subjects for elementary 5th and 6th graders in 2025, the largest scale among provincial education offices nationwide.
During the workshop, there will be guidance on operating autonomous school time, presentations of operational cases, explanations of subjects and operational materials by schools. Teachers from Hoehyun Elementary and Imi Elementary Schools will present cases of operating the "Buburi Village" and "Purum" subjects, respectively.
Fifteen schools in the province will exhibit the autonomous school time subjects they are currently operating, with representative teachers from each school introducing the features and operational methods of the subjects.
The Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education plans to accept applications for approved subjects by the Superintendent in August, select and announce approved subjects through consultations and evaluations in September and October.
Superintendent Cheon Ho-seong stated, "Autonomous school time is an important educational program that enriches students' learning by incorporating the characteristics of schools and communities into the curriculum," adding, "We will expand on-site support to enable schools to design and operate their own curricula."
전북교육청, 초등 학교자율시간 운영 전문성 강화
전북교육청은 학교 교육과정의 자율성과 다양성을 확대하기 위해 7일 창조나래 시청각실에서 ‘2026 초등 학교자율시간 운영 전문성 신장 워크숍’을 개최한다.
이번 워크숍에는 초등 교원과 교육전문직원 250여 명이 참여하며, 2022 개정 교육과정의 핵심 정책인 학교자율시간의 안정적 운영을 지원하고 현장 우수사례를 공유하기 위해 마련됐다.
학교자율시간은 지역과 학교 여건, 학생의 필요를 반영해 국가 교육과정에 제시되지 않은 새로운 과목이나 활동을 학교가 직접 개설·운영하는 교육과정이다.
전북교육청은 2024년 초등 3~4학년 대상 교육감 승인 과목 18개, 2025년 초등 5~6학년 대상 승인 과목 21개 등 모두 39개 과목을 개설·운영하고 있다. 이는 전국 시도교육청 가운데 가장 많은 규모다.
워크숍에서는 학교자율시간 운영 안내, 운영사례 발표, 학교별 과목 설명과 운영 자료 전시가 진행된다. 회현초 최대한 교사와 이리모현초 문효명 교사는 각각 ‘부부리 마을’과 ‘푸름’ 과목 운영 사례를 발표한다.
또 도내 15개 학교가 운영 중인 학교자율시간 과목을 전시하고, 학교별 대표 교사가 과목의 특징과 운영 방법을 소개한다.
전북교육청은 오는 8월 교육감 승인 과목 신청을 받고, 9~10월 컨설팅과 심사를 거쳐 승인 과목을 선정·발표할 계획이다.
천호성 교육감은 “학교자율시간은 학교와 지역의 특색을 교육과정에 담아 학생의 배움을 풍성하게 만드는 중요한 교육과정”이라며 “학교가 스스로 교육과정을 설계하고 운영할 수 있도록 현장 지원을 확대하겠다”고 말했다.
