A large outdoor parking lot is being created near the Jeonbuk Provincial Government Office in the western downtown area of Jeonju.
The city of Jeonju announced on the 9th that they plan to officially operate an outdoor parking lot with 84 spaces in Majeon-dong 3-ga, adjacent to the north gate of the Jeonbuk Provincial Government Office, starting from October.
To achieve this, the city started construction last month, and after completion in August, they plan to conduct a trial operation before preparing for full-scale operation.
The western downtown area is known for being densely packed with government offices and commercial facilities, leading to a shortage of parking spaces.
In an effort to alleviate the chronic parking shortage in the western downtown area, the city had previously opened a large parking lot with 312 spaces for free in Hyoja-dong 2-ga in April, and now they have decided to secure additional outdoor parking spaces by utilizing the underutilized space on the road near the north gate of the Jeonbuk Provincial Government Office.
Specifically, the city plans to invest a total project cost of 60 million won (fully funded by the city) to create a paid outdoor parking lot with 84 spaces in the entrance and exit section of the north gates 1 and 2 of the Jeonbuk Provincial Government Office in Majeon-dong. The city also plans to ensure the safety of users by installing CCTV cameras along with parking line markings.
The project site is a road space in the entrance and exit section connecting the north gates 1 and 2 of the provincial government office, and it has been highly evaluated for its economic feasibility as it can secure parking spaces without the need for separate land acquisition.
Furthermore, the area is located in a section where there is a high flow of people, including government officials going to and from the provincial office, citizens visiting the nearby stream, and visitors to the commercial district, so the city anticipates a high demand for actual usage after completion.
The city expects that with the creation of this parking lot, the long-standing issue of illegal parking in the Majeon-dong area will be significantly alleviated. Additionally, they hope that the illegal parked vehicles that used to be placed along the roadside due to lack of parking spaces will be absorbed into the official parking spaces, improving traffic safety and pedestrian environment.
Upon the completion of the construction in August, the city will start a trial operation to confirm the convenience for citizens and the usage of the parking lot, and then officially operate it as a paid parking lot from October.
The parking fees will be applied in accordance with the "Jeonju City Parking Ordinance," where the initial 30 minutes will cost 700 won, and an additional 350 won will be charged for every 15 minutes thereafter. This fee structure is relatively less burdensome compared to other nearby paid public parking lots in the western downtown area of Jeonju, which charge 900 won for the initial 30 minutes.
전북특별자치도청 북측에 대규모 노상주차장 조성
전주 서부신시가지 전북특별자치도청 인근에 대규모 노상주차장이 조성된다.
전주시는 전북특별자치도청 북문과 맞닿은 마전들로(완산구 효자동3가 일원)에 노상주차장 84면을 조성해 오는 10월부터 정식 운영할 계획이라고 9일 밝혔다.
이를 위해 시는 지난달 공사에 착수했으며, 오는 8월 준공 이후에는 시범운영을 거쳐 본격적인 운영 준비에 나설 예정이다.
서부신시가지 일대는 관공서와 상업시설이 밀집해 주차공간이 부족한 지역으로 꼽혀왔다.
시는 만성적인 서부신시가지 주차난 해소를 위해 지난 4월 효자동2가 공한지에 312면 규모의 대형 주차장을 무료 개방한 데 이어, 전북특별자치도청 북문 마전들로의 도로 유휴 공간을 활용해 노상주차장을 추가로 확보하기로 결정했다.
구체적으로 시는 총사업비 6억 원(전액 시비)을 투입해 마전들로 전북특별자치도청 북1·2문 진출입 구간에 84면 규모의 유료 노상주차장을 조성할 계획이다. 시는 이 과정에서 주차선 도색과 함께 CCTV를 설치해 이용객의 안전도 함께 확보키로 했다.
특히 사업 부지는 도청 북1문과 북2문을 잇는 진출입 구간의 도로 여유 공간으로, 별도의 부지매입 없이도 주차 공간을 확보할 수 있다는 점에서 사업 경제성이 높다는 평가를 받았다.
뿐만 아니라 해당 구역은 도청을 오가는 민원인과 인근 천변을 찾는 시민, 상업밀집지역 방문객 등 유동인구가 몰리는 구간에 위치해 완공 이후 실제 이용 수요도 높을 것으로 시는 내다보고 있다.
시는 이번 주차장 조성으로 그동안 마전들로 일대에서 반복돼 온 불법 주정차 문제가 상당 부분 해소되는 것은 물론, 그동안 갈 곳이 없어 도로변에 세워지던 불법 주정차 차량들이 정식 주차공간으로 흡수되면서 통행 안전과 보행 환경도 개선될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
시는 오는 8월 공사가 마무리되는 대로 시범운영에 돌입해 시민들의 편의 및 주차장 이용도 등을 확인하고, 이후 10월부터 유료 주차장으로 정식 운영할 방침이다.
이용 요금은 ‘전주시 주차장 조례’에 따라 최초 30분까지는 700원, 이후에는 15분마다 350원이 추가되는 요금제가 적용되는 방식이다. 이는 인근 서부신시가지 다른 유료 공영주차장(최초 30분, 900원)을 적용받는 것과 비교하면 상대적으로 부담이 적은 편이다.
