Jeonju City announced on the 9th that it will officially operate 84 on-street parking spaces in the vicinity of Majeon-ro near the North Gate of Jeollabuk-do Provincial Office from October to alleviate parking difficulties in the western downtown area.
The location of the parking lot is in Hyoja-dong 3-ga, Wansan-gu, which is an underutilized space on the road section between the North Gate 1 and North Gate 2 of the Jeollabuk-do Provincial Office. The city started construction last month and plans to operate on a trial basis after completion in August, with paid parking starting from October.
The western downtown area is an area where government offices and commercial facilities are densely concentrated, leading to ongoing issues of parking shortages and illegal parking. Following the opening of a free parking lot with 312 spaces in Hyoja-dong 2-ga in April, Jeonju City decided to secure additional parking spaces near the North Gate of the provincial office this time.
The city will invest a total of 600 million won in this project. The city plans to ensure the safety of users by painting parking lines and installing CCTV cameras.
According to the Jeonju City parking ordinance, the parking fee will be 700 won for the first 30 minutes, with an additional 350 won for every 15 minutes thereafter. The fees are relatively lower compared to nearby paid public parking lots in the western downtown area.
Jeonju City expects that with the establishment of this parking lot, parking inconveniences for visitors to the provincial office and nearby commercial areas will be reduced, and illegal parking and traffic inconveniences on Majeon-ro will be partially improved.
Baek Mi-young, head of the Jeonju City Public Transportation Department, stated, "The area around the North Gate of the provincial office has been a place where government office complainants and residents faced parking inconveniences," and added, "We will focus on ensuring safety even during construction and trial operation periods."
전주시, 도청 북문 인근 노상주차장 84면 조성
전주시는 서부신시가지 주차난 해소를 위해 전북특별자치도청 북문 인근 마전들로에 노상주차장 84면을 조성해 오는 10월부터 정식 운영한다고 9일 밝혔다.
주차장이 들어서는 곳은 완산구 효자동3가 일원으로, 전북자치도청 북1문과 북2문 진출입 구간의 도로 유휴 공간이다. 시는 지난달 공사에 착수했으며, 8월 준공 후 시범운영을 거쳐 10월부터 유료로 운영할 계획이다.
서부신시가지는 관공서와 상업시설이 밀집해 주차공간 부족과 불법 주정차 문제가 지속적으로 제기돼 온 지역이다. 전주시는 지난 4월 효자동2가 공한지에 312면 규모의 무료 주차장을 개방한 데 이어, 이번에 도청 북문 인근에 추가 주차공간을 확보하기로 했다.
이번 사업에는 전액 시비 6억 원이 투입된다. 시는 주차선 도색과 CCTV 설치를 통해 이용객 안전도 함께 확보할 방침이다.
이용 요금은 전주시 주차장 조례에 따라 최초 30분 700원, 이후 15분마다 350원이 추가된다. 인근 서부신시가지 유료 공영주차장 요금보다 상대적으로 낮은 수준이다.
전주시는 이번 주차장 조성으로 도청 민원인과 인근 상업지역 방문객의 주차 불편이 줄고, 마전들로 일대 불법 주정차와 통행 불편도 일부 개선될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
백미영 전주시 대중교통국장은 “도청 북문 일대는 관공서 민원인과 주민들의 주차 불편이 컸던 지역”이라며 “공사와 시범운영 기간에도 안전관리에 만전을 기하겠다”고 말했다.
