A 'Commemoration Ceremony for the Victory in the First Battle of the Marine Corps' was held on the 12th at Dongwoo Art Hall in Gunsan to reflect on the significance of the Marine Corps' first victory in battle and to honor the noble spirit of sacrifice of the patriots who gave their lives for the country.
The event was attended by Baek Gyeong-tae, Director of the External Relations Division of North Jeolla Province, Park Ji-won, a member of the National Assembly, Kim Jae-jun, Mayor of Gunsan, Seo Dong-soo, Chairman of the Gunsan City Council, Gu Ja-song, Deputy Commander of the Marine Corps, and Lee Seung-do, President of the Marine Corps Veterans Association, as well as war veterans, Marine Corps personnel, veterans' organizations, citizens, and others totaling over 500 people.
The ceremony began with pre-ceremony rituals such as mourning and vocal performances, followed by national ceremonies, commendations for meritorious service, retrospectives, welcoming speeches, commemorative speeches, congratulatory speeches, and Marine Corps performances.
This event was organized to commemorate the historical significance of the Marine Corps' first victory in the battles of Gunsan, Janghang, and Iljigi during the Korean War, and to honor the noble sacrifices and dedication of the patriots who laid down their lives for the country. North Jeolla Province awarded commendations from the Governor to two meritorious individuals who contributed to the Marine Corps Veterans Association's community service and fostering of security awareness.
Prior to the commemoration ceremony, various programs were held for two days starting from the 11th at Gunsan Jinpo Maritime Theme Park, including exhibitions and experiences of Marine Corps Amphibious Assault Vehicles (KAAV), national defense photo exhibitions, relics exhibitions by the Ministry of National Defense excavation team, recruitment promotion, youth cultural festivals, military band and honor guard demonstrations, and pre-ceremony events.
In particular, at the youth cultural festival, local youth showcased various performances, demonstrating their talents and creativity. The military band and honor guard demonstrations, as well as security experience programs, provided citizens with a meaningful time to reflect on the significance of patriotism and national security.
전북자치도, 해병대 최초 전투 전승기념 추모식 개최
해병대 최초 전투의 승전 의미를 되새기고 호국영령의 숭고한 희생정신을 기리기 위한 '해병대 최초 전투 전승기념 추모식'이 12일 군산 동우아트홀에서 열렸다.
이날 행사에는 백경태 전북자치도 대외국제소통국장, 박지원 국회의원, 김재준 군산시장, 서동수 군산시의회 의장, 구자송 해병대 부사령관, 이승도 해병대전우회 총재를 비롯해 참전용사와 해병대 장병, 보훈단체, 도민 등 500여 명이 참석했다.
추모식은 진혼무와 성악공연 등 식전행사를 시작으로 국민의례, 유공자 표창, 회고사, 환영사와 기념사, 축사, 해병대가 제창 순으로 진행됐다.
이번 행사는 6·25전쟁 당시 해병대가 군산·장항·이리지구 전투에서 거둔 최초 승전의 역사적 의미를 되새기고, 나라를 위해 목숨을 바친 호국영령의 숭고한 희생과 헌신을 기리기 위해 마련됐다. 전북특별자치도는 해병대전우회의 지역사회 봉사와 안보의식 함양에 기여한 유공자 2명에게 도지사 표창을 수여했다.
추모식에 앞서 11일부터 이틀간 군산 진포해양테마공원에서는 해병대 수륙양용돌격장갑차(KAAV) 전시 및 체험을 비롯해 안보사진전, 국방부 유해발굴감식단 유물 전시, 모병 홍보, 청소년 문화제, 군악·의장대 시범공연, 전야제 등 다양한 프로그램이 운영됐다.
특히 청소년 문화제에서는 지역 청소년들이 다양한 공연을 선보이며 끼와 재능을 발산했고, 군악·의장대 시범공연과 안보체험 프로그램은 시민들에게 호국보훈의 의미와 안보의 중요성을 되새기는 뜻깊은 시간을 선사했다.
