Seo Gil-yong's 'Eomun Gokmul Sanggam'
A special exhibition that allows a glimpse into the past, present, and future of Korean contemporary crafts is set to open.
The Korea Craft Culture Association, chaired by Lee Kwang-jin, will host the '2026 Korean Contemporary Crafts Elders and Elite Artists Exhibition' at the W Art Museum in Iksan for ten days starting from the 21st.
This exhibition is a meaningful gathering that invites ten elder artists who have laid the foundation and led the development of Korean contemporary crafts over the years, along with elite artists who are expanding new horizons in the art of crafts with their unique creative spirit.
Representative artists from the Korean craft industry will showcase their profound thoughts and artistic worlds through high-quality works in various fields: ▲ Ceramics: Seo Gil-yong, Kim Sang-ho ▲ Fiber Crafts: Park Soo-cheol, Choi Moon-joo, Song Seung-hyo ▲ Metal Crafts: Ha Young-jo, Jeon Yong-il, Na Kyung-hwa ▲ Wood Crafts: Ki Young-rak, In Mi-ae.
The participating artists will reinterpret traditional craft techniques with a modern sensibility, aiming to showcase the artistic value and creativity of crafts as pure art beyond their original utility.
Lee Kwang-jin, Chairman of the Korea Craft Culture Association, expressed that holding this exhibition in the lush vitality of July is very meaningful, stating that the works reflecting individual artistic worlds and profound thoughts are valuable fruits that demonstrate the diversity and artistry of Korean contemporary crafts.
He further conveyed his hope that this exhibition will be a meaningful time for visitors to fully experience the cultural value and artistic inspiration of crafts.
Meanwhile, the Korea Craft Culture Association, the organizer, has been consistently conducting various exhibitions and cultural activities to promote the development and expansion of Korean craft culture.
In particular, they are leading the future of Korean contemporary crafts by hosting the 27th Iksan Korea Craft Grand Exhibition as a gateway to discovering and nurturing talented emerging artists. The association also added that they are committed to discovering and introducing excellent craftworks based on fair and transparent judging in this year's competition.

한국 현대공예의 어제와 오늘, 그리고 미래를 한눈에 조망할 수 있는 특별한 전시가 열린다.
(사)한국공예문화협회(이사장 이광진)는 오는 21일부터 30일까지 열흘간 익산 W미술관에서 ‘2026 한국현대공예 원로·정예작가 10인전’을 개최한다.
이번 전시는 오랜 세월 동안 한국 현대공예의 기틀을 닦고 발전을 이끌어온 원로작가들과, 독창적인 창작정신으로 공예예술의 새로운 지평을 넓혀가고 있는 정예작가 10인을 초청해 마련한 뜻깊은 자리다.
이번 전시에는 한국 공예계를 대표하는 작가들이 대거 참여해 저마다의 깊이 있는 사유와 예술 세계를 담아낸 격조 높은 작품들을 선보인다.
부문별로 ▲도자공예: 흙의 따뜻한 생명력을 빚어내는 서길용, 김상호 작가 ▲섬유공예: 실과 천을 통해 다채로운 시각적 울림을 전하는 박수철, 최문주, 송승효 작가 ▲금속공예: 단단한 금속에 예술적 영혼을 불어넣는 하영조, 전용일, 나경화 작가 ▲목칠공예: 나무 본연의 결에 세월의 깊이를 더하는 기영락, 인미애 작가가 함께 한다.
참여 작가들은 전통적인 공예 기법을 현대적 감각으로 재해석하여, 공예가 지닌 고유한 쓰임새를 넘어 순수 미술로서의 예술성과 가치를 온전히 보여줄 예정이다.
이광진 (사)한국공예문화협회 이사장은 "푸르른 생명력이 무르익는 7월에 이번 전시를 개최하게 되어 매우 뜻깊다"며, "저마다의 예술세계와 깊이 있는 사유를 담아낸 작품들은 한국 현대공예의 다양성과 예술성을 보여주는 소중한 결실"이라고 소회를 밝혔다.
이어 "이번 전시가 관람객 여러분께 공예가 지닌 문화적 가치와 예술적 감동을 온전히 느끼는 뜻깊은 시간이 되기를 바란다"고 전했다.
한편, 주최 측인 (사)한국공예문화협회는 대한민국 공예문화의 발전과 저변 확대를 위해 다양한 전시와 문화 사업을 꾸준히 전개해 오고 있다.
특히 역량 있는 신진작가를 발굴하고 육성하기 위한 등용문인 「익산한국공예대전」을 올해로 제27회째 개최하며 한국 현대공예의 미래를 선도해 나가고 있다. 협회 측은 올해 공모전 역시 공정하고 투명한 심사를 바탕으로 우수한 공예작품을 발굴하고 소개하는 데 만전을 기하겠다는 포부를 덧붙였다.
