The community cinema cooperative Moomyung Cine, based in Jeonju, will host a premiere screening of director Choi Chang-hwan's film "Hiding Mountain" at the JB Culture Space in Jeonju on August 1st.
This event is organized to commemorate the upcoming official release of "Hiding Mountain," which was produced in 2020 and will be released in August 2026, marking six years since its production. It will be the first opportunity for audiences in Jeonju to experience the work of director Choi Chang-hwan, who gained attention at the Jeonju International Film Festival with films like "The World I Live In" and "The Boy Walking on the Waves."
The film is a black-and-white road movie set in a fictional dystopia called the 5th Republic, depicting the story of people who hide in the mountains to evade the surveillance of the authorities. It stars actors Kang Gil-woo and Kim Si-eun and received production support from the Ulju Mountain Film Festival and the Korean Film Council.
Following the screening, there will be a dialogue (GV) with director Choi Chang-hwan and actor Kang Gil-woo, moderated by film critic Im Yeon-joo.
The screening will take place on August 1st at 2 p.m. on the 3rd floor JB seats at JB Culture Space in Jeonju. Participation fee is 5,000 won, and they will recruit the first 25 participants through advance reservation. Moomyung Cine cooperative expressed their hope that it will be a meaningful time for Jeonju citizens to be the first to encounter independent films and directly communicate with creators.
무명씨네 협동조합, 영화 <숨어드는 산> 개봉 기념 사전 특별 상영회 개최
전주를 기반으로 활동하는 커뮤니티시네마 무명씨네 협동조합이 오는 8월 1일 전주 JB문화공간에서 최창환 감독의 영화 <숨어드는 산> 프리미어 상영회를 개최한다.
이번 행사는 2020년 제작된 <숨어드는 산>이 제작 6년 만인 2026년 8월 정식 개봉하는 것을 기념해 마련됐다. <내가 사는 세상>, <파도를 걷는 소년> 등으로 전주국제영화제에서 주목받은 최창환 감독의 작품을 전주에서 가장 먼저 만날 수 있는 자리다.
영화는 제5공화국이라는 가상의 디스토피아를 배경으로 공권력의 감시를 피해 산으로 숨어든 사람들의 이야기를 그린 흑백 로드무비다. 배우 강길우와 김시은이 출연했으며, 울주세계산악영화제와 한국영상위원회의 제작지원을 받았다.
상영 후에는 최창환 감독과 강길우 배우가 참석하는 관객과의 대화(GV)가 진행되며, 임연주 영화평론가가 모더레이터를 맡는다.
상영회는 8월 1일 오후 2시 전주 JB문화공간 3층 JB객석에서 열린다. 참가비는 5천 원이며, 사전 예약을 통해 선착순 25명을 모집한다. 무명씨네 협동조합은 "전주 시민들이 독립영화를 가장 먼저 만나고 창작자와 직접 소통하는 뜻깊은 시간이 되길 바란다"고 밝혔다.
