Jeonju City has decided to create an ice path to help alleviate the summer heat in Jeonju Hanok Village, which attracts over 13 million domestic and international tourists annually.
Starting from July 24th, which marks the peak of the summer vacation season and the scorching heat, the city plans to place two large ice blocks at 20 key locations in Jeonju Hanok Village, including Taejo Road, Eunhaeng-ro, and Hyanggyo-gil, every Friday, Saturday, and public holiday for a total of 13 days, to cater to the bustling tourists.
This initiative aims to provide a brief respite from the heat for citizens and tourists visiting Jeonju Hanok Village during the summer vacation season.
The city will regularly monitor the ice conditions and safety issues to ensure that citizens moving back and forth do not feel inconvenienced. However, in case of rain, the ice path construction will be postponed to the next Friday, Saturday, or public holiday.
In addition to the ice path, the city is also offering various cooling services such as cooling fog, fountains, and streams to help visitors to Jeonju Hanok Village beat the heat.
Song Jeong-ha, the head of Jeonju City's Hanok Village Business Office, stated, "Creating an ice path in Hanok Village will bring great fun, joy, and comfort to citizens and visitors who come to Hanok Village even in the scorching heat," and added, "We will continue to make efforts to create a pleasant environment for Hanok Village tourism that meets the needs of citizens and tourists."
전주한옥마을에 여름철 무더위 날릴 얼음길 조성
전주시가 연간 1300만 명 이상의 국내외 관광객이 찾는 전주한옥마을에 여름철 무더위를 날려줄 얼음길을 조성키로 했다.
시는 폭염 및 여름휴가 기간인 오는 24일부터 8월 23일까지 매주 금요일과 토요일, 공유일 등 총 13일에 걸쳐 관광객이 붐비는 전주한옥마을의 태조로와 은행로, 향교길 등 한옥마을 주요거점 20곳에 각각 대형얼음 2개씩 비치할 계획이라고 23일 밝혔다.
이는 여름 휴가철을 맞아 전주한옥마을을 찾는 시민 및 관광객에게 잠시 무더위를 식혀갈 수 있도록 만들기 위함이다.
시는 얼음 상태와 안전 문제 등을 수시로 확인해 오가는 시민들이 불편함을 느끼지 않도록 관리할 예정이다. 단, 우천시에는 다음 금·토·공휴일로 얼음길 조성이 연기된다.
이와 함께 시는 얼음길 조성외에도 쿨링포그, 분수 및 실개천 등을 운영하는 등 한옥마을을 방문하는 시민과 관광객이 무더위를 떨칠 수 있도록 다양한 쿨링 서비스를 함께 제공하고 있다.
송정하 전주시 한옥마을사업소장은 “한옥마을 얼음길 조성은 폭염에도 한옥마을을 찾아주시는 시민과 방문객에게 큰 재미와 즐거움 그리고 위안을 선사할 것”이라며 “앞으로도 시민과 관광객의 니즈에 맞춰 쾌적한 한옥마을 관광환경 조성을 위해 더욱 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
