Prime Minister Han Seong-sook visited Saemangeum on the 24th for her first regional schedule since taking office, where she held an investment activation company meeting with Governor Lee Won-taek of Jeollabuk-do and Saemangeum Development Authority, and inspected the status of the National Industrial Complex 7 site.
Jeollabuk-do announced that on the 24th, a 'Saemangeum Investment Activation Company Meeting' was held at the Saemangeum Development Authority with Prime Minister Han Seong-sook in attendance.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Han Seong-sook, Governor Lee Won-taek of Jeollabuk-do, officials from the Saemangeum Development Authority, relevant central government agencies, Hyundai Motor, Saemangeum investment companies, and representatives from local physical AI-related companies, totaling about 20 people.
The purpose of the meeting was to directly listen to the voices of Saemangeum investment companies, explore cooperation between the government and local governments to grow the physical AI and robotics industries based on Hyundai's investment, and seek ways to support them.
During the meeting, presentations were made on the current status of Saemangeum development, company support measures, investments and future plans, government support policies for fostering new industries, and policy directions.
In the subsequent discussion, companies pointed out issues such as licensing procedures, industrial infrastructure expansion, securing specialized personnel, research and development challenges faced during investment and factory operations, and suggested improvements and expanded support to the government and Jeollabuk-do.
Governor Lee Won-taek expressed his intention to proactively pursue measures tailored to the needs of companies to ensure stable business activities of Saemangeum resident companies and early establishment of Hyundai's investment.
Moving forward, the province plans to continuously monitor the difficulties faced by resident companies on-site and collaborate with the Saemangeum Development Authority and relevant agencies to provide necessary support in licensing, infrastructure, personnel, and research and development according to the investment stages and demand of each company. In particular, they plan to meticulously examine and actively support the necessary matters in the project implementation process to ensure smooth progress of Hyundai's investment.
Governor Lee Won-taek stated, "What is most important is the support that companies investing in Saemangeum can feel on-site," and expressed that Jeollabuk-do will become a responsible investment partner to enable early realization of Hyundai's investment and establish an advanced industry ecosystem, including physical AI and robotics industries, in Saemangeum.
After the meeting, Prime Minister Han Seong-sook, Governor Lee Won-taek, and other participants visited the Saemangeum National Industrial Complex, which includes the planned Hyundai investment site, to listen to the development status and future plans, and toured the site.
새만금에 모인 정부·지자체·기업…투자 활성화 머리 맞대

전북특별자치도는 24일 새만금개발청에서 한성숙 국무총리 주재로 ‘새만금 투자 활성화 기업 간담회’가 열렸다고 밝혔다.
이날 자리에는 한성숙 국무총리와 이원택 전북자치도지사를 비롯해 새만금개발청과 관계 중앙부처, 현대자동차 등 새만금 투자기업, 도내 피지컬 AI 관련 기업 관계자 등 20여 명이 함께했다.
간담회는 새만금 투자 기업들의 현장 목소리를 직접 듣고, 현대차 투자를 발판 삼아 피지컬 AI와 로봇산업을 키우기 위한 정부와 지자체의 협력 방안을 모색하기 위해 마련됐다.
이 자리에서는 새만금 개발 현황과 기업 지원 방안, 투자 및 향후 계획, 신산업 육성을 위한 정부 지원책과 정책 방향 등이 차례로 발표됐다.
뒤이은 토론에서 기업들은 투자와 공장 운영 과정에서 부딪히는 인허가 절차, 산업기반시설 확충, 전문인력 확보, 연구개발 등의 문제를 짚으며 제도 개선과 지원 확대를 정부와 전북도에 건의했다.
이원택 지사는 새만금 입주기업의 안정적인 경영활동과 현대차 투자의 조기 안착을 위해 기업 눈높이에 맞춘 대책을 선제적으로 추진하겠다는 뜻을 밝혔다.
도는 앞으로 입주기업이 현장에서 겪는 어려움을 상시 점검하고, 기업별 투자단계와 수요에 맞춰 인허가·기반시설·인력·연구개발 등 필요한 뒷받침이 적기에 이뤄지도록 새만금개발청 및 관계부처와 손발을 맞춰 나갈 계획이다. 특히 현대차 투자가 차질 없이 추진될 수 있도록 사업 추진 과정에서 필요한 사항을 면밀히 살피고 적극 지원한다는 방침이다.
이원택 전북자치도지사는 “새만금에 투자한 기업들이 현장에서 체감할 수 있는 뒷받침이 무엇보다 중요하다”며 “현대차 투자가 조기에 가시화되고 피지컬 AI와 로봇산업을 비롯한 첨단산업 생태계가 새만금에 뿌리내릴 수 있도록 전북도가 책임 있는 투자 파트너가 되겠다”고 말했다.
한편, 간담회를 마친 한성숙 국무총리와 이원택 지사 등 참석자들은 현대차 투자예정지가 포함된 새만금 국가산업단지를 찾아 조성 현황과 향후 개발계획을 청취하고 현장을 둘러봤다.
