The National Gugak Center will operate the second half of the social contribution program 'Gugak Companions on the Go,' which helps emotionally stabilize and heal vulnerable children and adolescents, from October 31 to November 27.
'Gugak Companions on the Go' is a program where members of the National Gugak Center directly visit child care and welfare institutions to provide gugak (traditional Korean music) education and experiences. This year, the program has doubled in scale to 10 institutions and 40 sessions, and expanded its scope from Jeollabuk-do to Gwangju, Jeollanam-do.
Following the eight sessions conducted in the first half of the year at two institutions in Iksan and Buan in February, the second half will see a total of 32 sessions, with four sessions each at eight institutions in Jeollabuk-do's Wanju, Buan, Jeonju, Gimje, Jinan, and Jeollanam-do's Gwangju, Nam-gu, Buk-gu, and Gurye.
The classes consist of traditional children's songs, minyo (folk songs), ganggangsullae (a circle dance), buchaechum (fan dance), gayageum (a traditional Korean zither), etc. Each class incorporates play, rhythmic activities, and crafting to make it easier and more enjoyable for children to experience gugak.
This year, through collaboration with integrated arts education organizations, the program has systematized lesson models tailored to children's ages and levels, as well as play-based teaching methods. It has also enhanced the professionalism of gugak education for children by reflecting communication and teaching methods that consider children's perspectives and teaching conditions.
Based on the results of the first half of the year, it was shown that the concentration and interest of children increased in classes that combined crafting and games, and their understanding of the works and closeness with the instructors improved.
An official from the National Gugak Center stated, " 'Gugak Companions on the Go' is a meaningful project where the Gugak Center shares its expertise and artistic resources with the local community," adding, "As we have expanded the operating areas and sessions this year and refined the teaching methods more meticulously, we hope that more children will have a friendly encounter with gugak and accumulate enjoyable cultural experiences."
국립민속국악원, 취약계층 대상 ‘찾아가는 국악동행’ 대상 기관 확대
국립민속국악원은 취약계층 아동·청소년의 정서적 안정과 치유를 돕는 사회공헌 사업 ‘찾아가는 국악동행’의 하반기 프로그램을 오는 31일부터 11월 27일까지 운영한다.
‘찾아가는 국악동행’은 국립민속국악원 단원이 아동 돌봄·복지기관을 직접 찾아가 국악 교육과 체험을 제공하는 프로그램이다. 올해는 운영 규모를 10개 기관·40회로 두 배로 확대하고, 전북에서 전남광주까지 사업 범위를 넓혔다.
지난 2월 익산과 부안의 2개 기관에서 상반기 프로그램 8회를 진행한 데 이어, 하반기에는 전북특별자치도 완주·부안·전주·김제·진안과 전남광주통합특별시 남구·북구·구례군의 8개 기관에서 기관별 4회씩 총 32회를 운영한다.
수업은 전래동요와 민요, 강강술래, 부채춤, 가야금 등으로 구성된다. 각 수업에 놀이·율동·만들기 활동을 접목해 아동들이 국악을 쉽고 즐겁게 경험할 수 있도록 진행한다.
올해는 통합예술교육단체와 협업해 아동의 연령과 수준에 맞춘 수업 모델과 놀이·체험형 교수법을 체계화하고, 아동의 눈높이와 수업 여건을 고려한 소통·지도 방식을 반영해 아동 대상 국악교육의 전문성을 강화했다.
상반기 운영 결과, 만들기와 게임을 접목한 수업에서 아동들의 집중도와 흥미가 높아졌으며, 작품에 대한 이해와 강사와의 친밀감도 향상된 것으로 나타났다.
국립민속국악원 관계자는 “‘찾아가는 국악동행’은 국악원이 보유한 전문성과 예술 자원을 지역사회와 나누는 뜻깊은 사업”이라며 “올해는 운영 지역과 횟수를 넓히고 수업 방식도 더욱 세심하게 다듬은 만큼, 더 많은 아이들이 국악을 친근하게 만나 즐거운 문화 경험을 쌓기를 바란다”고 전했다.
