Ulsan University held an international cooperation forum on regional tourism between Jeollabuk Special Self-Governing Province and Ishikawa Prefecture in Japan at the Multipurpose Studio in the Humanities Building on the Jeonju campus on the 30th.
The forum was organized to discuss practical models of regional tourism cooperation, such as joint tourism product development, festival planning, tourism company collaboration, and youth exchange, by linking the tourism resources of Jeollabuk Special Self-Governing Province and Ishikawa Prefecture.
Professor Heo Moon-kyung from the RISE Project Team presented the achievements of Ulsan University's youth participation project in local policies, "Youth, Speaking of the Future of the Region," and introduced examples of operating an international regional studies program.
Professor Heo emphasized the need for universities to expand their role as international cooperation platforms connecting regions and overseas, stating that the tourism cooperation between Jeollabuk and Ishikawa should evolve into a sustainable model combining research, education, and industry, rather than a one-time exchange.
The subsequent discussion involved participants from Jeollabuk Cultural Tourism Foundation, Jeollabuk Tourism Business Support Center, Jeollabuk Tourism Association, Jeonju Tourism Foundation, Wanju Cultural Tourism Foundation, and representatives from the Korean Social Enterprise Society. They discussed ways to develop joint tourism products, plan festivals, promote tourism company exchanges, and expand youth exchanges.
Participants agreed that based on the overseas regional studies program centered on Ishikawa Prefecture, which Ulsan University is currently operating, an international symposium scheduled to be held at the Ishikawa Prefectural Assembly in January 2027 should be considered as the starting point for bilateral tourism cooperation.
Furthermore, the need to create economic effects through the development of tourism products integrating regional specialties such as traditional markets, garden culture, culinary culture, and artisan culture in Jeonju and Kanazawa, as well as farm tours, joint marketing, and tourism company exchanges, was highlighted.
Hwang Tae-kyu, Dean of the Future Convergence College at Ulsan University, stated, "International exchanges should create results that connect the growth and development of both regions, rather than being merely about visits or event frequency," and expressed the university's commitment to creating a model of regional tourism international cooperation involving universities, local governments, tourism agencies, and companies.
우석대, 전북·일본 이시카와현 지역관광 협력 토론회 개최
우석대학교는 지난 30일 전주캠퍼스 인문관 다목적스튜디오에서 ‘전북특별자치도–일본 이시카와현 지역관광 국제협력 토론회’를 개최했다.
이번 토론회는 전북특별자치도와 일본 이시카와현의 관광자원을 연계해 공동 관광상품 개발, 축제 기획, 관광기업 협력, 청년교류 등 실질적인 지역관광 협력모델을 논의하기 위해 마련됐다.
주제발표에 나선 허문경 RISE사업단 교수는 우석대가 추진해 온 대학생 지역정책 참여 프로젝트 ‘청년, 지역의 미래를 말하다’의 성과와 해외지역학 교육과정 운영 사례를 소개했다.
허 교수는 대학이 지역과 해외를 연결하는 국제협력 플랫폼 역할을 확대해야 한다며, 전북과 이시카와현의 관광협력도 일회성 교류가 아니라 연구와 교육, 산업이 결합한 지속 가능한 모델로 발전해야 한다고 밝혔다.
이어진 토론에는 전북특별자치도문화관광재단, 전북관광기업지원센터, 전북관광협회, 전주관광재단, 완주문화관광재단, 한국사회적기업학회 관계자 등이 참여했다. 참석자들은 공동 관광상품 개발, 축제 기획, 관광기업 교류, 청년교류 확대 등 실행 방안을 논의했다.
참석자들은 우석대가 운영 중인 일본 이시카와현 중심의 해외지역학 교육과정을 기반으로, 오는 2027년 1월 일본 이시카와현 의회에서 열릴 예정인 국제발표회를 양 지역 관광협력의 출발점으로 삼아야 한다는 데 의견을 모았다.
또 전주와 가나자와의 전통시장, 정원문화, 미식문화, 장인문화 등 지역 특화자원을 연계한 관광상품 개발과 팸투어, 공동 마케팅, 관광기업 교류를 통한 경제적 효과 창출 필요성도 제기됐다.
황태규 우석대 미래융합대학장은 “국제교류는 단순한 방문이나 행사 횟수가 아니라 양 지역의 성장과 발전으로 연결되는 성과를 만드는 것이 중요하다”며 “대학, 지방정부, 관광기관, 기업이 함께하는 지역관광 국제협력 모델을 만들어가겠다”고 말했다.
