The Jeonju Office of Education Support announced on the 31st that it had held two planning team meetings on the 22nd and 29th to be selected for the Ministry of Education's '2026 Education Innovation Leading Region' project. They have embarked on discovering a Jeonju-style educational innovation model.
The Jeonju Office of Education Support operates a planning team composed of schools, universities, industries, youth, and local education experts to discuss educational innovation tasks tailored to the regional conditions.
During the first meeting, they shared the direction and operational plans of the Education Innovation Leading Region project and discussed key strategies reflecting Jeonju's educational conditions and regional characteristics.
In the second meeting, they shared the projects proposed by the planning team and detailed the key themes to be reflected in the public proposal. Participants focused on discovering projects that could enhance Jeonju's distinctiveness by examining community opinions, the promises of the Mayor of Jeonju, and the Superintendent of Education in North Jeolla Province.
Key directions for promotion included expanding AI and software specialized education in downtown areas and small schools, AI-based tailored basic academic support, fostering K-food and future industry talents in collaboration with local universities, K-film and intellectual property education, and establishing a village education autonomy ecosystem.
Methods of linking Jeonju's cultural and historical resources with education were also discussed. Ideas such as utilizing Jeonju City's library infrastructure and local culture as the center of the 'Jeonju is for Reading' brand, students recording the region through 'Jeonju Chronicles Archiving', using the entire city as a learning space with 'Roofless Library', connecting school levels with 'Reading Ecosystem Union', and residents and students learning together in 'Human Library' were considered.
The planning team is scheduled to hold a workshop on August 11th with the participation of the Education Office, local governments, universities, schools, parents, and local education activists to gather opinions. During the workshop, they plan to discuss detailed implementation plans based on the core themes identified so far and complete the Jeonju-style operational plan to submit to the Ministry of Education for the public proposal.
Chae Seon-young, the head of education, said, "The Education Innovation Leading Region project is a project that designs the future of the region together," and stated, "We will collaborate with Jeonju City, universities, industries, and the local community to establish a Jeonju-style educational innovation model."
전주교육지원청, 교육혁신선도지역 공모 준비 본격화
전주교육지원청은 교육부가 추진하는 ‘2026년 교육혁신선도지역’ 공모사업 선정을 위해 지난 22일과 29일 두 차례 기획단 회의를 열고 전주형 교육혁신 모델 발굴에 나섰다고 31일 밝혔다.
전주교육지원청은 학교, 대학, 산업계, 청소년, 지역교육 전문가 등으로 구성된 기획단을 운영하며 지역 여건에 맞는 교육혁신 과제를 논의하고 있다.
1차 회의에서는 교육혁신선도지역 사업의 추진 방향과 운영계획을 공유하고, 전주의 교육 여건과 지역 특성을 반영한 핵심 전략을 검토했다.
2차 회의에서는 기획단이 제안한 사업을 공유하고 공모 제안서에 반영할 핵심 의제를 구체화했다. 참석자들은 지역사회 의견과 전주시장, 전북특별자치도교육감 공약을 함께 살피며 전주만의 차별성을 높일 수 있는 사업 발굴에 집중했다.
주요 추진 방향으로는 원도심과 소규모학교의 AI·SW 특화교육 확대, AI 기반 맞춤형 기초학력 지원, 지역 대학과 연계한 K-푸드·미래산업 인재 양성, K-영화·지식재산 교육, 마을교육자치 생태계 구축 등이 제시됐다.
전주의 문화·역사 자원을 교육과 연계하는 방안도 논의됐다. 전주시 도서관 인프라와 지역 문화를 활용한 ‘전주는 독서다’ 브랜드를 중심으로 학생이 지역을 기록하는 ‘전주실록 아카이빙’, 도시 전체를 배움터로 활용하는 ‘지붕 없는 도서관’, 학교급을 연결하는 ‘독서 생태계 연합’, 지역 주민과 학생이 함께 배우는 ‘휴먼 라이브러리’ 등이 검토됐다.
기획단은 오는 8월 11일 교육청, 지자체, 대학, 학교, 학부모, 지역교육활동가 등이 참여하는 의견수렴 워크숍을 열 예정이다. 워크숍에서는 지금까지 발굴된 핵심 의제를 바탕으로 세부 실행방안을 논의하고, 전주형 운영계획서를 완성해 교육부 공모에 제출할 계획이다.
채선영 교육장은 “교육혁신선도지역 사업은 지역의 미래를 함께 설계하는 사업”이라며 “전주시, 대학, 산업체, 지역사회와 협력해 전주만의 교육혁신 모델을 구축하겠다”고 말했다.
