The Jeonju World Sound Festival is expanding its scope as a cultural arts platform that encompasses various genres and generations beyond the boundaries of traditional arts by collaborating with Baekje Arts University.
During the festival period from the 14th to the 15th, the festival will showcase a DJ festival called 'Beat Connect: Urban to Local' in collaboration with Baekje Arts University at Moijang, a complex cultural arts space in Jeonju's Nambu Market. The performances will be open for free viewing from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
This performance is part of the Korean Culture and Arts Council's '2026 Pre-Artist Field-Linked Support Project for Art Universities', organized by Baekje Arts University's Electronic Music Department, and co-hosted by the Sound Festival and JTV.
'Beat Connect: Urban to Local' is a DJ festival where you can experience a diverse spectrum of electronic music under the concept of 'connecting regions and cities with beats'. It encompasses various genres such as House, Techno, Hip-Hop, R&B, combining K-POP remixes and retro sounds to incorporate both popularity and experimentation. It is also a creative project planned and participated in by pre-artists, presenting a new cultural cooperation model involving the local community, university, and festival.
The stage will feature 11 Baekje Arts University Electronic Music students participating as DJs, showcasing their individuality and musical worlds. The students will be joined by their supervising professors, DJ R2 and RUQOA, as special guests, delivering high-quality performances.
The Sound Festival aims to promote a festival where various genres and cultures coexist based on traditional arts. This DJ festival is also expected to provide a different kind of enjoyment to the audience as a new cultural content that supports the creative activities of young artists and connects the local community and the festival.
Kim Jung-soo, the executive director of the Sound Festival, stated, "The collaboration with Baekje Arts University this time is a significant opportunity for young artists to grow in the actual festival scene," adding, "We will continue to expand the festival's outreach through programs that encompass various genres and generations."
Baekje Arts University President Park Gwi-jae emphasized, "This project, where students plan and create performances themselves, will be an invaluable hands-on experience for pre-artists," stating, "We will actively support students' creative challenges and the development of local cultural arts through collaboration with the Sound Festival in the future."
전주세계소리축제X백제예대 협업 프로젝트 가동
전주세계소리축제가 백제예술대학교와 손을 잡고 전통예술의 경계를 넘어 다양한 장르와 세대를 아우르는 문화예술 플랫폼으로 영역을 넓힌다.
소리축제는 본 축제기간인 14일부터 15일까지 전주 남부시장 복합문화예술공간 모이장에서 백제예대와 함께 DJ 페스티벌 ‘Beat Connect: Urban to Local’을 선보인다. 공연은 오후 7시부터 11시까지 누구나 자유롭게 관람할 수 있다.
이번 공연은 한국문화예술위원회 ‘2026년도 예술대학의 예비예술인 현장연계지원사업’의 일환으로 추진되며, 백제예대 전자음악과가 주최하고 소리축제와 JTV가 공동 주관한다.
‘Beat Connect: Urban to Local’은 ‘비트로 지역과 도시를 잇는다’는 콘셉트 아래 전자음악의 다채로운 스펙트럼을 한자리에서 만날 수 있는 DJ 페스티벌이다. House, Techno, Hip-Hop, R&B 등 다양한 장르를 아우르며 K-POP 리믹스와 레트로 사운드를 결합해 대중성과 실험성을 담아낸다. 또한 예비예술인들이 직접 기획하고 참여하는 창작 프로젝트로, 지역과 대학, 축제가 함께하는 새로운 문화 협력 모델을 제시한다.
무대는 백제예대 전자음악과 재학생 11명이 DJ로 참여해 각자의 개성과 음악세계를 선보이며 학생들의 지도교수인 DJ R2와 RUQOA가 특별 게스트로 출연해 완성도 높은 퍼포먼스를 펼친다.
소리축제는 전통예술을 기반으로 다양한 장르와 문화가 공존하는 축제를 지향하고 있다. 이번 DJ 페스티벌 역시 젊은 예술인들의 창작 활동을 지원하고 지역과 축제를 연결하는 새로운 문화 콘텐츠로서 관객들에게 색다른 즐거움을 선사할 것으로 기대된다.
김정수 소리축제 집행위원장은 “이번 백제예대와의 협업은 젊은 예술인들이 실제 축제 현장에서 성장할 수 있는 뜻깊은 기회”라며 “앞으로도 다양한 장르와 세대를 아우르는 프로그램을 통해 축제의 외연을 넓혀가겠다”고 덧붙였다.
박귀재 백제예대 총장은 “학생들이 직접 기획하고 공연을 만드는 이번 프로젝트는 예비예술인들에게 무엇과도 바꿀 수 없는 현장 경험이 될 것”이라며 “앞으로도 소리축제와의 협력을 통해 학생들의 창의적인 도전과 지역 문화예술 발전에 적극 지원하겠다”고 강조했다.
