As part of the "K-Hanji Village Artist Exchange Creation Platform Project," the Jeonju Cultural Foundation will be hosting the 2nd residency artist achievement exhibition titled 'Variations of Hanji: Connecting Boundaries' at the Jeonju Millennium Hanji Museum from July 7 to September 26.
This exhibition will showcase the creative achievements of printmaker and ink painter Kim Myoung Nam and bookmaker/illustrator Lee Haejung, who participated in the K-Hanji Village residency. The two artists will present the artistic potential of Hanji and its contemporary applications through works created based on traditional Hanji.
The K-Hanji Village residency is an international art exchange program where overseas artists learn the traditional process of Hanji production at the Jeonju Millennium Hanji Museum and collaborate with local paper artisans. The resident artists produce Hanji themselves and expand their artistic world by utilizing it as a creative material.
The exhibition title 'Variations of Hanji: Connecting Boundaries' embodies the expansiveness of Hanji that transcends boundaries between tradition and modernity, East and West, craftsmanship and contemporary art. The two artists with different cultural backgrounds interpreted the properties and production process of Hanji in their own ways and reflected them in their works.
In addition, the related program, Master Classes, will be held on August 13 with Lee Haejung's 'Journey on Paper: Identity and History Beyond Boundaries' and on August 14 with Kim Myoung Nam's 'Trends in Contemporary Art: Encounter of Artisan Spirit and Art.'
The opening ceremony of the exhibition will take place at 2 p.m. on July 7 at the 2nd floor exhibition hall of the Jeonju Millennium Hanji Museum, and it will be open for free viewing until September 26.
K-한지마을 성과전시‘한지의 변주: 경계를 잇다’개최
전주문화재단이 「K-한지마을 예술인 교류 창작 플랫폼사업」의 일환으로 오는 7일부터 9월 26일까지 전주천년한지관에서 2차 입주작가 성과전시 ‘한지의 변주: 경계를 잇다’를 개최한다.
이번 전시는 K-한지마을 레지던시에 참여한 판화·수묵화 작가 김명남(Myoung Nam KIM)과 북메이커이자 일러스트레이터 이해정(Haejung Lee)의 창작 성과를 선보인다. 두 작가는 전통 한지를 기반으로 제작한 작품을 통해 한지의 예술적 가능성과 현대적 활용을 제시한다.
K-한지마을 레지던시는 해외 예술인이 전주천년한지관에서 전통 한지 제작 과정을 배우고 지역 초지장과 협업하는 국제 예술교류 프로그램이다. 입주작가들은 직접 한지를 제작하고 이를 창작 재료로 활용하며 작품세계를 확장했다.
전시명 ‘한지의 변주: 경계를 잇다’는 전통과 현대, 동양과 서양, 공예와 현대미술의 경계를 넘나드는 한지의 확장성을 담고 있다. 서로 다른 문화적 배경을 가진 두 작가는 한지의 물성과 제작 과정을 각자의 방식으로 해석해 작품에 담아냈다.
더불어 연계 프로그램인 마스터클래스는 8월 13일 이해정 작가의 ‘종이 위의 여정: 경계를 넘어선 정체성과 역사’, 8월 14일 김명남 작가의 ‘현대미술의 동향: 장인정신과 예술의 조우’를 주제로 진행된다.
전시 개막식은 7일 오후 2시 전주천년한지관 2층 전시관에서 열리며, 9월 26일까지 무료로 관람할 수 있다.
