The Jeonju World Sound Festival, which opens on the 12th, will showcase a variety of contents including popular music performances, family programs such as the Children's Sound Festival, urban performances called Sound Fringe, the debut of Sound Cinema this year, and the audience-participatory AI Pansori Creation Project. It welcomes audiences to an open festival where people of all ages and spaces can enjoy and participate together.
Representative popular programs of this year's Sound Festival include special stages by the emotional vocal group Urban Zakapa and singer Shim Soo-bong, a representative of South Korea. Urban Zakapa will perform at 4 p.m. on the 15th at the Yeonji Hall of the Korean Sound Culture Center, while Shim Soo-bong will meet the audience at the same place at 4 p.m. on the 16th.
The Children's Sound Festival for family audiences is also prepared. Presented through a collaborative planning by the Jeonju Cultural Foundation, this program at the Palbok Arts Factory is designed to make our sounds more accessible and friendly to children through performances and experiential contents tailored to children's perspectives. It expands the festival's scope as a family program where children and parents can discover the joy of traditional arts together.
Sound Fringe will unfold in various locations throughout downtown Jeonju. Fringe performances that go beyond performance venues and into everyday spaces will take place at various locations such as Jeonbuk University's Gujeongmun Gate, Jeonju Dasaupjeong, Palbok Arts Factory, and Yeonhwajeong Library. The free performances transcending genres and formats will provide citizens and tourists with special cultural experiences they may encounter by chance, turning various spots in Jeonju into vibrant festival stages.
The debut of Sound Cinema this year also attracts attention. On the 13th at 11 a.m. at the Yeonji Hall of the Korean Sound Culture Center, after screenings of "Seopyeonje" and "The Girl with a Faulty Drum," there will be a dialogue (GV) with Kim Myeong-gon, former Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism and actor. Following this, on the 14th at the same time, screenings of "Eohwa Jungseon" and "The Girl with a Faulty Drum" will be accompanied by a GV with director Baek Hak-gi and actress Jung Ee-hwa. Sound Cinema, combining movies, our sounds, and encounters with artists, will meet the audience as a new cultural content expanding the emotional impact of performances onto the screen.
The AI Pansori Creation Project is also a new attraction. Creative works born from the combination of generative AI technology and Pansori will be presented at the festival site, and the final selected works will be screened for three days at the Nolimadang. Through on-site audience voting, the audience directly participates in the selection process of works, communicating with the audience through a new participatory content where traditional arts and advanced technology meet.
The 2026 Sound Festival will continue to evolve into a festival where everyone can enjoy together, expanding from the value of traditional arts to music, movies, experiences, and participatory programs. Audiences seeking performance venues, as well as citizens and tourists encountering the festival throughout Jeonju, will each provide a special time connected through sound in their own ways.

전주세계소리축제, 모든 세대 아우르는 대중형 공연 기획

12일 개막하는 전주세계소리축제가 대중음악 공연을 비롯해 가족 프로그램인 <어린이 소리축제>, 도심형 공연 <소리 프린지>, 올해 첫선을 보이는 <소리시네마>, 관객 참여형
올해 소리축제의 대표적인 대중 프로그램으로는 감성 보컬 그룹 <어반자카파>와 대한민국을 대표하는 가수 <심수봉>의 특별 무대가 준비된다. <어반자카파>는 15일 오후 4시 한국소리문화의전당 연지홀에서, <심수봉>은 16일 오후 4시 같은 장소에서 관객들과 만난다.
가족 관객을 위한 <어린이 소리축제>도 마련된다. 전주문화재단과 공동 협력 기획으로 선보이는 이번 프로그램은 팔복예술공장을 무대로, 어린이의 눈높이에 맞춘 공연과 체험 콘텐츠를 통해 우리 소리를 보다 쉽고 친근하게 접할 수 있도록 구성된다. 아이와 부모가 함께 참여하며 전통예술의 즐거움을 발견하는 가족형 프로그램으로 축제의 폭을 넓힌다.
전주 도심 곳곳에서는 <소리 프린지>가 펼쳐진다. 공연장을 벗어나 일상의 공간으로 찾아가는 프린지 공연은 전북대학교 구정문, 전주대사습청, 팔복예술공장, 연화정도서관 등 다양한 장소에서 진행된다. 장르와 형식을 넘나드는 자유로운 공연은 시민과 관광객이 우연히 마주하는 특별한 문화 경험을 선사하며 전주 곳곳을 살아있는 축제 무대로 만든다.
올해 처음 선보이는 <소리시네마>도 눈길을 끈다. 13일 오전 11시 한국소리문화의전당 중회의장에서는 ‘서편제’와 ‘그릇된 소녀’ 상영 후 김명곤 전 문화체육부 장관 겸 배우와 함께하는 관객과의 대화(GV)가 진행된다. 이어 14일 같은 시간에는 ‘이화중선’과 ‘그릇된 소녀’를 상영하고, 백학기 감독과 정이화 배우가 참여하는 GV를 마련한다. 영화와 우리 소리, 예술가와의 만남이 어우러지는 <소리시네마>는 공연의 감동을 스크린으로 확장하는 새로운 문화 콘텐츠로 관객과 만난다.
2026 소리축제는 전통예술의 가치를 바탕으로 음악과 영화, 체험, 참여 프로그램까지 폭넓게 확장하며 모두가 함께 즐기는 축제로 나아간다. 공연장을 찾는 관객은 물론 전주 곳곳에서 축제를 마주하는 시민과 관광객까지 각자의 방식으로 소리와 연결되는 특별한 시간을 선사할 예정이다.
김정수 소리축제 집행위원장은 “축제는 누구나 자신의 방식으로 참여하고 즐길 때 더욱 큰 의미를 가진다”며 “올해 소리축제는 전통예술을 중심으로 대중음악, 거리공연, 가족 프로그램, 영화, AI 콘텐츠까지 폭넓게 선보이며 세대와 공간을 넘어 모두가 어우러지는 축제를 만들어가겠다”고 말했다.
