Jeonbuk Hyundai announced that their youth academy graduate, Kim Ye-geon, will challenge the European stage by transferring to the prestigious Serbian club FK Cukaricki.
Kim Ye-geon, who signed a professional contract on July 9, will leave Jeonbuk to start a new challenge at Cukaricki, representing the Serbian league.
FK Cukaricki is a prestigious Serbian club that is familiar to Korean football fans. It is the club where national team midfielder Hwang In-beom excelled, and where Seol Young-woo also experienced European football, showcasing his competitiveness. Korean players making their way to the European stage through Cukaricki are well-known.
Kim Ye-geon, a midfielder who emerged from Jeonbuk Hyundai's youth system, developed his skills based on excellent fundamentals and a high understanding of the game. Despite his young age, he is recognized as a player with the ability to read the flow of the game and possess stable skills, consistently being selected for various national youth teams, carrying the expectations of leading Korean football as a promising future talent.
After making his debut on the adult stage through a semi-professional contract in March, Kim Ye-geon showed rapid growth and was chosen for Jeonbuk's A team. In July, he set a record for the first time in Jeonbuk's club history by transitioning from a high school student to a professional player while still in school, creating a new example in the club's youth development system.
This season, Kim Ye-geon played in 8 K League 1 matches, scoring 1 goal, proving his potential on the first team stage. He also secured his position as a future asset for Jeonbuk by playing in one match in the Korea Cup.
Especially in the Hyundai Derby against Ulsan Hyundai, he left a strong impression on many fans by scoring his debut goal with bold penetration and calm finishing.
Despite being in the midst of an important ranking competition this season, Jeonbuk Hyundai respected the player's desire to move to Europe. 전북현대는 구단 유스 출신 김예건이 세르비아 명문 FK 츠르베나 즈베즈다로 이적하며 유럽 무대에 도전한다고 밝혔다.
지난 7월 9일 정식 프로 계약을 체결한 김예건은 전북을 떠나 세르비아 리그를 대표하는 즈베즈다에서 새로운 도전을 시작하게 됐다.
FK 츠르베나 즈베즈다는 세르비아를 대표하는 명문 구단으로 한국 축구 팬들에게도 친숙한 팀이다.
국가대표 미드필더 황인범이 활약했던 구단이며, 설영우 역시 즈베즈다에서 유럽 무대를 경험하며 자신의 경쟁력을 보여준 바 있어 한국 선수들의 유럽 진출 무대로도 잘 알려져 있다.
김예건은 전북현대 유스 시스템인 동대부속금산중 - 전주영생고 출신으로 뛰어난 기본기와 높은 축구 이해도를 바탕으로 성장해 온 미드필더다.
어린 나이임에도 경기의 흐름을 읽는 능력과 안정적인 기술을 두루 갖춘 선수로 평가받으며, 각 연령별 국가대표팀에도 꾸준히 선발되는 등 한국 축구를 이끌 차세대 자원으로 기대를 받아왔다.
김예건은 지난 3월 준프로 계약을 통해 성인 무대에 첫발을 내디딘 뒤 빠른 성장세를 보이며 전북 A팀의 선택을 받았다.
이어 7월에는 전북 구단 역사상 최초로 고교 재학 신분에서 준프로 선수에서 정식 프로 선수로 전환하는 기록을 세우며 구단 유소년 육성 시스템의 새로운 사례를 만들었다.
올 시즌 김예건은 K리그1 8경기에 출전해 1골을 기록하며 1군 무대에서도 자신의 가능성을 증명했고, 코리아컵에서도 1경기에 출전하며 전북의 미래 자원으로 자리매김했다.
특히 울산 HD와의 현대가 더비에서는 과감한 침투와 침착한 마무리로 프로 데뷔골을 기록하며 많은 팬들에게 강한 인상을 남겼다.
전북현대는 현재 시즌 중 중요한 순위 경쟁을 이어가고 있는 상황에서도 선수 본인의 유럽 진출 의지를 존중했다.
