Artists with extensive on-site experience and administrative skills have been nominated as the heads of two key institutions leading cultural arts in Jeollabuk Special Self-Governing Province.
On the 26th, the Jeollabuk Special Self-Governing Province Personnel Committee announced the nominees for the positions of the new director of the Provincial National Music Institute and the director of the Provincial Art Museum through an open recruitment process (General Term Employment System, Open Recruitment No. 4). Wang Ki-seok (63), former director of the National Folk Music Institute, was nominated as the new director of the Provincial National Music Institute, while Lee Ki-jeon (71), former CEO of the Jeollabuk Cultural Tourism Foundation, was nominated as the director of the Provincial Art Museum.
Wang Ki-seok, the nominee for director of the Provincial National Music Institute from Jeongeup, is a performer of the intangible cultural heritage No. 2, the Pansori "Sugungga." He is a renowned singer who has won awards such as the KBS National Music Awards Grand Prize (2014) and the Pansori Master Division at the Jeonju Daesaseupnori (2015). Having served as a member of the National Changgeuk Company, the director of the Jeongeup Municipal National Music Orchestra, and the 7th director of the National Folk Music Institute, he is highly regarded for his expertise in both stage performance and the overall administration of traditional Korean music.
Lee Ki-jeon, the nominee for director of the Provincial Art Museum from Imsil, is a Western-style painter who graduated from Jeonju Yeongsang High School, Kyunghee University's Department of Art Education, and its graduate school. He has accumulated a wide range of experiences in exhibition sites and cultural administration through his past roles as the head of the Samrye Culture and Arts Village, the director of the Jeonju Contemporary Art Museum, and the CEO of the Jeollabuk Cultural Tourism Foundation.
Starting from the 27th to the 31st, Jeollabuk Province will conduct identity verification and physical examinations for the candidates who have registered, and they plan to officially appoint them in September. The term of office for each position is two years.

전북특별자치도 문화예술을 이끌 핵심 두 기관의 수장에 현장 경험과 행정력을 두루 갖춘 예술가들이 내정됐다.
전북특별자치도 인사위원회는 26일 개방형 직위(일반임기제 개방형 4호) 공모 최종 합격자로 신임 도립국악원장에 왕기석(63) 전 국립민속국악원장을, 도립미술관장에 이기전(71) 전 전북문화관광재단 대표이사를 각각 발표했다.
정읍 출신의 왕기석 도립국악원장 내정자는 전북 무형유산 제2호 판소리 ‘수궁가’ 예능보유자다. KBS국악대상 대상(2014), 전주대사습놀이 판소리 명창부 장원(2015) 등을 수상한 명창으로, 국립창극단 단원과 정읍시립국악단장, 제7대 국립민속국악원장을 거쳐 무대 현장과 국악 행정 전반에 대한 전문성을 두루 갖췄다는 평가를 받는다.
임실 출신의 이기전 도립미술관장 내정자는 전주영생고와 경희대 미술교육과, 동 대학원을 나온 서양화가다. 삼례문화예술촌장과 전주현대미술관장, 전북문화관광재단 대표이사 등을 역임하며 전시 현장과 문화행정 경험을 두루 쌓았다.
전북도는 27일부터 31일까지 후보자 등록을 받은 뒤 신원조사와 공무원 채용 신체검사를 거쳐 오는 9월 중 이들을 공식 임용할 예정이다. 임기는 각 2년이다.
