Untitled (Familiarity and Strangeness) Series_Work
The solo exhibition '余白 (Yobak)' by artist Hwang Miran will be held at the Seohakdong Photo Art Museum in Jeonju from September 1st to 6th. This exhibition focuses on the 'provisional time' where emotions and meanings accumulate within oneself before the direction of life is determined.
The artist defines the state of mind where hesitation before making a choice, where hope and anxiety intersect, not as simple 'empty time' but as 'time where possibilities linger' and 'margin.' This exhibition is selected as part of the 2026 Cultural and Arts Promotion Support Project by the Jeollabuk-do Special Self-Governing Province Cultural Tourism Foundation.
The central motif of the exhibition is the 'spring magnolia flower.' Through the spring magnolia flower, which announces the early spring, the artist symbolically connects the structure of life where hope and uncertainty coexist. The artist captured the numerous emotions and choices colliding in the process of life as 'time where something is created.'
In terms of artistic technique, the artist reconstructed the flatness and symbolism of traditional folk paintings into a modern formal language. Through the process of pure silk dyeing and coloring, as well as overlapping, the artist expressed the essence and rest, the essence of time. Especially in the final space expanding from painting to installation, the artist presents a 'bird about to take flight,' raising questions about waiting and directionality.
This exhibition is the result of expanding inner thoughts that have been carried over from the 2023 'Mind-Breath, Rest' and 2024 'Mind-Rest' exhibitions. Artist Hwang has been actively expanding the modern possibilities of traditional paintings through activities in France, Toulouse, and domestically in Seoul, Jeonju, Iksan, Gunsan, and Daejeon.
The exhibition is open for viewing from 10:30 am to 6:00 pm, and the artist greets visitors at the exhibition venue every day. The exhibition is closed on Mondays.
황미란 개인전 ‘餘白’ …9월 1일~6일 전주 서학동사진미술관
<무제(낯섦과 익숙함) 연작_작>
황미란 작가의 개인전 ‘餘白(여백)’이 오는 9월 1일부터 6일까지 전주 서학동사진미술관에서 열린다. 이번 전시는 삶의 방향이 결정되기 전, 내면에 감정과 의미가 쌓여가는 ‘잠정적인 시간’에 주목한다.
작가는 선택 직전의 머뭇거림, 희망과 불안이 교차하는 마음의 상태를 단순한 ‘비어 있는 시간’이 아닌 ‘가능성이 머무는 시간’이자 ‘여백’으로 정의한다. 전북특별자치도문화관광재단의 2026 문화예술육성지원사업 선정작이다.
전시의 핵심 모티프는 ‘봄까치꽃’이다. 이른 봄을 알리는 봄까치꽃을 통해 작가는 희망과 불확실성이 공존하는 삶의 구조를 상징적으로 연결한다. 삶의 과정에서 충돌하는 수많은 감정과 선택을 ‘무언가가 생성되는 시간’으로 담아냈다.
작품 기법 면에서는 전통 민화의 평면성과 상징성을 현대적 조형 언어로 재구성했다. 순지 위 염색과 채색, 중첩의 과정을 통해 숨과 쉼, 시간의 결을 표현했다. 특히 회화에서 설치로 확장되는 마지막 공간에서는 ‘날아오르기 직전의 새’를 선보이며 기다림과 방향성에 대한 질문을 던진다.
이번 전시는 2023년 ‘심(心)-숨, 쉼’, 2024년 ‘심(心)-쉼’전에서 이어온 내면의 사유를 확장한 결과다. 황 작가는 프랑스 툴루즈 민화전 및 서울·전주·익산·군산·대전 등 국내외에서 활발히 활동하며 전통 회화의 현대적 가능성을 넓혀왔다.
전시는 오전 10시 30분부터 오후 6시까지 관람 가능하며, 작가가 매일 전시장에서 관람객을 맞이한다. 매주 월요일은 휴관이다.
