The Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, will shed light on the new value of millennium-old hanji in its birthplace, Jeonju, as it approaches UNESCO's listing as intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The festival will kick off with an opening ceremony on October 8th and will run until the 10th at the Korean Traditional Culture Center.
In anticipation of the Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival, the Jeonju Cultural Foundation has unveiled posters and slogans to actively promote the festival.
This year's festival slogan is 'Now, HANJI.' It signifies the importance of not confining the value of hanji, which has been passed down for a millennium, to the past heritage but rather looking at it anew in our daily lives, culture, and industries today.
The poster depicts curves of different colors and shapes freely flowing and forming layers, symbolizing that hanji, which has continued for centuries, is expanding into new forms even at this moment.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival has been sharing the traditions and values of Jeonju hanji with its citizens for the past 30 years, broadening the spectrum of hanji culture. This year, the festival aims to illuminate the present and future of hanji that does not dwell on tradition and solidify the value of hanji with the new generation.
The festival will showcase various programs demonstrating not only the traditional values and excellence of hanji but also how hanji is utilized in cultural arts, industries, and daily life today.
Key programs include the opening ceremony, Hanji Yard (hanji sports events, hanji experiences, etc.), a collaborative hanji lantern exhibition between Jeonju and Jinju, an exhibition of award-winning works from the 32nd National Hanji Craft Competition, and an exhibition of award-winning works from the 6th National Children's Hanji Art Competition.
Especially this year, the festival will draw attention to the communal value of hanji as it approaches UNESCO's listing as intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Through an opening performance symbolizing the meaning of hanji passed from one person's hands to another, the festival aims to share the cultural value of hanji with the citizens.

‘제30회 전주한지문화축제’ 한국전통문화전당에서 10월 8일 개막
올해로 30주년을 맞은 전주한지문화축제가 한지의 본고장 전주에서 유네스코 인류무형문화유산 등재를 앞둔 천년 한지의 새로운 가치를 조명한다. 축제는 오는 10월 8일 개막식을 시작으로 9일과 10일까지 한국전통문화전당 일원에서 열린다.
전주문화재단은 전주한지문화축제를 앞두고 포스터와 슬로건을 공개하며 본격적인 축제 홍보에 나선다.
올해 축제의 슬로건은 ‘지금, 한지(Now, HANJI)’다. 천년의 시간 동안 이어져 온 한지의 가치를 과거의 유산에 머무르게 하지 않고 오늘날 우리의 일상과 문화, 산업 속에서 새롭게 바라보자는 의미를 담았다.
포스터는 서로 다른 색과 형태의 곡선이 자유롭게 물결치며 층을 이루는 그래픽을 통해 오랜 세월 이어져 온 한지가 지금 이 순간에도 새로운 모습으로 확장되고 있음을 표현했다.
올해로 30주년을 맞은 전주한지문화축제는 지난 30년간 전주한지의 전통과 가치를 시민과 함께 나누며 한지문화의 저변을 넓혀왔다. 이를 계기로 올해는 전통에 머무르지 않는 한지의 현재와 미래를 조명하고, 새로운 세대와 함께 한지의 가치를 확정해 나갈 예정이다.
축제에서는 한지의 전통적 가치와 우수성을 알리는 것은 물론, 오늘날 한지가 문화예술과 산업, 일상 속에서 어떻게 활용되고 있는지를 보여주는 다양한 프로그램을 선보인다.
주요 프로그램으로는 ▲개막식 ▲한지마당(한지 운동회, 한지체험 등) ▲전주·진주 협업 한지유등 전시 ▲제32회 전국한지공예대전 수상작 전시 ▲제6회 전국 어린이 한지 미술대회 수상작 전시 등이다.
특히 올해 축제는 유네스코 인류무형문화유산 등재를 앞둔 한지의 공동체적 가치에 주목한다. 사람들의 손에서 손으로 이어져 온 한지의 의미를 담은 개막 퍼포먼스를 통해 한지가 지닌 문화적 가치를 시민들과 함께 공유할 예정이다.
