The Jeonbuk branch of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) and the Jeonbuk branch of the Metal Workers' Union will hold the "Jeonbuk Workers' Rally" in front of the Iksan Regional Labor Office of the Ministry of Employment and Labor at 4 p.m. on the 21st.
The rally is organized to support the protest of the Metal Workers' Union's Ilgang branch and to demand the reinstatement of migrant workers who were unfairly dismissed, as well as prompt and thorough investigation by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
According to the union, the Ilgang branch has been conducting a sit-in protest at the office in response to targeted dismissals of migrant workers who joined the union. As of the 21st, the sit-in protest will have been ongoing for 38 days.
Currently, the Ministry of Employment and Labor is reported to be conducting an investigation into allegations of unfair labor practices by the company. The union argues that labeling this issue as a "labor dispute" by the company and other unions is obscuring the core issue.
The Jeonbuk branch of the KCTU decided to hold the Jeonbuk Workers' Rally jointly with the Jeonbuk branch of the Metal Workers' Union following discussions among representatives of local unions on the 7th.
The union members are taking turns to guard the protest site even during the Chuseok holiday, and both migrant workers and domestic union members are continuing their on-site struggle.
The Jeonbuk branch of the KCTU and the Jeonbuk branch of the Metal Workers' Union stated, "The Ministry of Labor must promptly and thoroughly investigate allegations of unfair labor practices," and requested the interest and solidarity of local workers and citizens.
The Jeonbuk Workers' Rally will take place at 4 p.m. on September 21 in front of the Iksan Regional Labor Office of the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
일강 노조탄압·이주노동자 해고 철회 촉구 전북노동자대회 21일 익산서
민주노총 전북본부와 금속노조 전북지부가 오는 21일 오후 4시 고용노동부 익산지청 앞에서 ‘일강 노조탄압 분쇄! 이주노동자 해고 철회! 고용노동부 책임 촉구! 전북노동자대회’를 개최한다.
이번 대회는 금속노조 일강지회의 농성 투쟁을 지원하고, 이주노동자 해고 철회와 고용노동부의 신속하고 엄정한 수사를 촉구하기 위해 마련됐다.
노조 측에 따르면 일강지회는 노조에 가입한 이주노동자들이 표적 해고를 당했다며 이에 반발해 사무동 로비 농성을 이어가고 있다. 오는 21일 기준 농성 38일째를 맞는다.
현재 고용노동부는 회사 측의 부당노동행위 여부 등에 대해 조사를 진행하고 있는 것으로 알려졌다. 노조 측은 회사와 다른 노조가 이번 사안을 ‘노노갈등’으로 규정하면서 문제의 본질을 흐리고 있다고 주장하고 있다.
민주노총 전북본부는 지난 7일 운영위원회에서 산별노조 대표자들의 현장 발의를 통해 금속노조 전북지부와 공동으로 전북노동자대회를 개최하기로 결정했다.
노조 측은 추석 연휴에도 농성장을 지키기 위한 당번을 운영하고 있으며, 이주노동자와 국내 노동자 조합원들도 현장 투쟁을 이어가고 있다고 밝혔다.
민주노총 전북본부와 금속노조 전북지부는 “노동청이 부당노동행위 의혹에 대해 신속하고 엄정하게 수사해야 한다”며 “지역 노동자와 시민들의 관심과 연대를 요청한다”고 밝혔다.
전북노동자대회는 9월 21일 오후 4시 고용노동부 익산지청 앞에서 열린다.
